Chapter 22
“Adora, you’re going too far!” Her mom finally spoke out. But the woman had always been a pushover, following her husband blindly.
“Don’t test me, mom. I’ll call the police.” Adora took out her phone to show how serious she was.
The room fell into silence, tense as both parties stood their ground. No one said a word until her
father broke down in laughter.
“Adora, oh Adora…go ahead and call your lawyer. You’ll only be burning your money. Your shares
already belonged to Rose long ago.”
“Adora, I knew you’d try something like that all along. Hence when Rose turned eighteen, you signed
a document, remember? It was the equity transfer agreement.” Mr. Rockefeller reclined back on the
sofa after drafting the agreement. “Not even the law can help you now. The documents contains your
signature, which you signed willingly.”
Adora’s eyes widened in shock. Her head felt light at her father’s confession. The man is cruel,
always has been. But she didn’t expect him to take it this far.
“Interesting, indeed.” Sebastian’s deep voice came from the front door where he had been leaning
against the wall and listening patiently, although none of the parties noticed his presence until then.
Slowly he stood straight to his full heights and sauntered towards Adora, standing beside her in his usual protective posture.
“Since you’re hellbent on stripping her of her belongings, I’ll let you have that. But on one condition.”
Sebastian placed a hand on the small of her back.
“You all underestimate Adora now. That’s alright. I want you to know that when she becomes successful, none of you can claim ties with her again. I want you to stay away from her now and
forever.”
Mr. Rockefeller was speechless. Since when did Sebastian have the guts to make such a declaration?
“Oh, joy! Go ahead and write it down, darling. Between the two of us, we’ll see who’ll need who!”
Mrs. Rockefeller exclaimed, deeply insulted that Sebastian would even think of something like that. Who was the guy again?

Without wasting any time, Mr. Rockefeller hastily added the condition.

Even Adora was torn when she heard Sebastian’s bold statement, but since he was standing up her, she wouldn’t let him down. She signed the agreement, severing ties with her parents forever.
With nothing left to do, Sebastian and Adora walked out of the house and ran into Hilary and Rose
as they walked up the patio.
“Here I was wondering who parked that junk here. It turned out it was yours.” Hilary snickered.
“You have poor taste, Adora, or were you in haste? That man is eight years older than you.”
“He is, and also a better man than you’d ever be, Hilary. A little advice, Rose, not all that glitters is
gold. Some are trash with polished exteriors. If Hilary can betray me, trust me, he would also betray you. That day will come sooner or later.” Adora smirked.
The Adora that would stand back and watch people trash her no longer exists, nor did she have an
ounce of respect for her elder sister anymore.
“Bitch, you dare talk to me like that?” Rose fumed, stomping towards Adora to put her in place until Hilary held back her hand.
“Clam down, love; your parents needed to speak with us, remember? Let’s go. And you,” he said,
looking up at Adora. “Think whatever you want, but I have never betrayed you. The person I loved from the beginning was Rose. You were so naive and greedy not to realize that all this while.”
“Hilary, pay attention to your words.” Sebastian grabbed Hilary’s collar and scolded him coldly.
That night, when Adora was drugged, she once called out Hilary’s name. How could Sebastian didn’t

as shorter than Sebastian, and he was not as imposing as Sebastian.
ora didn’t understand why Hilary said that she is vanity. When they were in love, she never asked him for a penny. She looked at Rose, Rose was very nervous. When she saw Adora looking at her, she immediately shifted her gaze to other places with a guilty conscience, so as not to collide with Adora’s eyes.
Adora understood that Hilary’s misunderstanding of her must have something to do with Rose.
“Let’s go, Seb; nothing Hilary says can ever hurt me now. I’ve long moved over him.” She squeezed
Sebastian’s hand when they reached their ride, then turned to Hilary one last time.

“And you, Hilary, I hope you don’t regret all your decisions one day.”
Adora’s words bugged Hilary, but he didn’t let it show. He had already made his choice. There was
nothing he’d regret about choosing Rose. She was the one that had saved him, he owed her his life,
and she’ll forever hold his heart.
After leaving the Rockefeller’s home, Adora and Sebastian went straight home. Sebastian had to stop
himself from dragging Adora inside; hence he ordered Mr. Greg to bring the first aid kit the moment they set foot inside the mansion.
The scratches and bruises on Adora’s arm distressed Sebastian. He was starting to regret letting the
Ashfords off so easily.
