Chapter 20
After that, Nathaniel became like a man who had truly lost his soul.
Before, when Riley was still alive, although Nathaniel hated Victoria, during the process of tormenting her, he was uncontrollably infected by the burning intensity in her eyes.
So he became obsessed with that psychopath, unwilling to admit he was affected by her, yet unable to let go.
It wasn’t until Riley’s death that he finally came to his senses. He finally let Victoria go.
Just as Riley had repeatedly asked him to do when she was still alive.
After releasing Victoria, he no longer cared about her. No matter how much she acted out, he no longer paid attention.
When Riley died, Nathaniel’s heart died with her.
He knew he had been wrong, so he used the rest of his life to atone for his sins.
Nathaniel never loved anyone else. The greatest love of his life remained only that girl whom he had ultimately lost on the rooftop.
In their memories, the most beautiful and the most painful moments were in the same place.
Nathaniel took on the responsibility of caring for Riley’s parents, even more devotedly than he cared for his own.
In the years that followed, Riley’s parents often praised him, saying their daughter had been fortunate to have met him.
But only he knew that wasn’t true.
If she hadn’t met him, Riley should have been the most radiant girl in the world, with a happy and fulfilling life.
But because she met Nathaniel, Riley lost everything that mattered most.
Her proudest dream of dancing, her basic physical health, and even the boyfriend who loved her most–she lost it all.
So in the end, she chose to jump from the roof to take revenge on him, the culprit.
Years later, Nathaniel, who had lived a solitary life, stood before Riley’s grave, repeatedly confessing to her, but he could never get a response. No matter how he apologized, the girl in the photograph on the tombstone always wore the same smile, and he could never be forgiven.
Until that day, he went alone to the rooftop where Riley had jumped. Standing there, he suddenly wanted to feel what Riley
had felt.
How had such a pain–fearing, timid girl managed to jump down so bravely and resolutely?
The moment he stood up there, looking down, feeling the wind on the rooftop, he suddenly understood. His Riley had already reached such a level of despair at that time, wanting only release.
Chapter 20
Thinking of Riley, Nathaniel stood at the edge of the roof and dove off, as if embracing the person he loved most.
He thought landing would be painful, but the expected pain never came.
He opened his eyes to find himself in his college dormitory, lying down with the sound of his phone ringing again and again.
Nathaniel picked up the phone to find that the caller was Riley.
He answered the phone in a daze, and from the other end came Riley’s angry scolding: “Are you coming or not? I’ve been waiting at the coffee shop for a long time!”
Nathaniel didn’t react. “Coming where?”
Riley immediately got angry: “You actually forgot! You have five minutes! If you’re not here, don’t bother seeing me again!”
She hung up. As he listened to the dial tone, he heard his dormmates laughing.
“Better hurry up! If you don’t go, she’s going to break up with you.”
Nathaniel listened to the familiar voice, looked at his phone, and was shocked to find that he had returned to the beginning of his senior year.
He instantly realized that he seemed to have been reborn.
Nathaniel quickly got dressed and left. He knew that Heaven was giving him another chance.
This time, he would love Riley properly and not let her be hurt in any way.
