Riley hadn’t missed how, when everyone was crowding around her and Theo, Nathaniel had chased after Victoria.
That was the last thing she saw before fainting from shock.
At that moment, Riley’s legs had gone numb with pain, and she once again thought she had lost them.
She had watched Victoria’s triumphant eyes, her body and soul screaming to kill Victoria, her gaze fixed intently on her.
But what did she see? She saw Victoria give her a contemptuous smile, and then Nathaniel following her out of the hall
Riley tightly gripped Theo’s hand, fighting back the choking sensation in her throat as she forced out each word:
“Nathaniel, we broke up a long time ago. From now on, we’re not even friends.”
After saying this, something else occurred to her.
“Also, you’d better keep Victoria in check. Don’t let her appear in front of me again, or I will have my revenge.*
With that, she pulled Theo toward the cafetería, muttering under her breath: “I’ll never let her have the chance to destroy my legs again…”
As they walked away, they didn’t see Nathaniel’s shocked expression behind them. When he heard Riley’s last words, his face filled with disbelief, and he involuntarily stepped backward.
Nathaniel took out his phone. He seemed to want to call someone but ultimately put it away without dialing.
“So that’s it, that’s why…”
Nathaniel painfully covered his eyes, but tears flowed uncontrollably, slowly seeping through the gaps between his fingers.
Thinking about Riley’s changes recently, her sudden proposal to break up, and her firm cancellation of their engagement, Nathaniel had never understood what went wrong.
Even though Victoria had scared Riley with her car that day, she hadn’t been physically hurt. Yet she had broken up with him so decisively, as if she had become a different person.
At first, Nathaniel thought she was just frightened. Later, he suspected it might be because of that boy…
But none of that mattered–Nathaniel was willing to wait for her.
However, her words just now suddenly made everything clear to him.
No wonder when she woke up after fainting that day, she looked at him as if he were an enemy.
No wonder she preferred breaking up to having any connection with him and Victoria.
No wonder Riley had coldly mocked him about “your precious Victoria.”

Chapter 18
No wonder everything had changed from before.
So, Riley had already… experienced it all?
Nathaniel crouched down, covering his face in extreme pain, his face deathly pale, unable to hold back the choking in his throat, his shoulders slightly trembling.
Riley, I’ve already lost you…
Riley, it’s already too late for everything.
