Chapter 14
Chapter 14
“I…”
A flash of pain crossed Nathaniel’s eyes.
After all, she had truly loved the person standing before her, and Riley couldn’t bear to see him hurt.
Catching the glimpse of pain in his eyes, Riley’s tone softened considerably: “Nathaniel, let’s break up. You’ve seen how crazy Victoria is. Think of it as… letting me go, okay?”
“No!” Nathaniel’s heart sank, and he immediately refused: “Absolutely not! We’re about to get married! Why should we break up because of Victoria?”
Riley’s brow furrowed slightly, her eyes clouding with unmistakable pain.
Yes, at this point in time, they were supposed to be getting married soon.
Both sets of parents had already set the wedding date, the banquet arrangements were already in place, and they were about to start trying on wedding dresses.
Three times.
In her previous tragic life and this reborn one, she had nearly married the man she loved most three times.
Three times, she had come so close to having what should have been a happy, fulfilling marriage.
But each time, it was because of Victoria.
The first time, on the eve of their wedding, Victoria ran her over and shattered her legs.
The second time, she had already tried on her wedding dress when she watched Nathaniel fall in love with Victoria, so she gave up everything and chose to die in front of the man she loved most.
And this time, before anything had happened, even though she had safely avoided the accident, and she believed Nathaniel wouldn’t give Victoria another chance to hurt her, she still chose to let go.
She no longer trusted Nathaniel or Victoria and didn’t want to be entangled with them anymore.
As long as Victoria left her alone, she was willing to step aside and let them be together.
So Riley looked at the person before her–even though she cherished every feature of his face, every angle and contour–and realized she wanted to let go: “Nathaniel, I don’t want any of this anymore.”
There was a slight choke in her voice, but her tone was filled with determination and finality.
“I don’t want to be caught up with you and Victoria anymore. I just want to be okay.”
“No, Riley, I don’t accept this. I love you, I truly love you…” Nathaniel trembled uncontrollably, his voice full of barely suppressed pain.

Chapter 14
Riley couldn’t help but cry too, but she still firmly shook her head…
Seeing her shake her head, Nathaniel pulled her into his arms and clutched her hands, pressing them against his chest as he pounded it wildly.
“I’m sorry, Riley… I’m sorry… It’s all my fault… Please don’t leave me, okay?”
He was begging pitifully, apologizing over and over as passersby couldn’t help but stare.
“Riley, I’ll send Victoria abroad right now. I won’t be soft–hearted anymore, I won’t have any entanglement with her. Please don’t leave me, please…”
But Riley just pushed him away through her tears, shaking her head silently as she ran into the dormitory building.
What she didn’t see was how that usually strong man crouched down, his back hunched. The moment her silhouette disappeared into the corridor, something that had been suppressed finally burst forth, and he cried out loud.
“Riley, I was wrong. I was so wrong. Please forgive me…”
Despite the brightly lit dormitory building, it felt as if the darkness of night pressed down around Nathaniel. There was no light around him anymore, only an inescapable depression and pain.
“Why, why I still can’t keep you with me, Riley…”
