Chapter 10

The headlines flashed across every news channel, every website, every social media platform. Not only about Suzanne, but also about Bryan. Due to the recent events in which he was also tied, people started investigating him and learned of his other illegal dealings. I wasn’t sure if Xander had to do with this, but reading the headlines was satisfying

Once a Business Mogul, Now Facing ChargesBryan Midnight’s Fall from Grace

Supermodel Suzanne Chavez Sentenced to PrisonCareer Officially Over

His company was crumbling, his investors were gone, and now, authorities were digging deeper into his financials. It was only a matter of time before an official warrant was issued against him

As for Suzanne? She was now a prisoner. No more red carpets. No more flashing cameras. Nc more adoring fans. Her name was tainted, her reputation beyond repair

I sat in the lounge, watching the news coverage unfold on the massive screen in front of me

Despite everything, Bryan still tried to reach me. My assistant walked in, phone in hand. Ma’am, he’s been calling again.”

I didn’t even glance up. Block him.”

She nodded, but hesitated. He also sent letters.”

That made me pause. Letters?”

She handed me a sealed envelope. Bryan’s handwriting was scrawled across the front

I didn’t open it. I didn’t need to. There was nothing he could say that would change the past. He had his chance. And he threw it away

I handed the letter back. Get rid of it.”

Yes, ma’am.”

My attention flickered back to the screen. Bryan Midnightonce untouchablewas now desperate. It was poetic, really. I picked up my glass of wine and smirked

I heard Suzanne would be transferred tomorrow, so send her a gift,I said

My assistant nodded. What would you like to send?”

Black flowers,I said, taking a slow sip of my drink. A welcome gift for her new home. Prison.”

She nodded and left. I continued sipping my drink while thinking of Bryan and Suzanne. I finally got my revenge

Wallace’s voice pulled me from my thoughts

I think it’s time to celebrate.”

I looked up to see him leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, his usual smirk in place. There was something almost amused in his expression, as if he had been expecting me to sit here, watching the world burn with satisfaction

I arched a brow. You think so?”

He stepped closer, shrugging slightly. Everything is falling into place. Bryan is finished. Suzanne is locked up. And you?His gaze met mine, sharp and certain. You’ve won.”

I let his words sink in. I had won. The past, the betrayal, the heartbreakit was over. Suzanne would spend years behind bars. Bryan’s empire was crumbling, his name dragged through the mud. Every single person who had wronged me had fallen

I set my glass down, exhaling slowly

Wallace was right. The past was finally behind me

I gave him a nod. “Alright. Let’s celebrate.”

Wallace grinned, his confidence never wavering. Good. I already have something planned.”

I didn’t expect a helicopter date. Yet here I was, standing on a private helipad, the cool night breeze brushing against my skin as the city lights stretched endlessly below us

I turned to Wallace, my arms crossed. Really?”

He simply smirked, clearly enjoying my reaction. You deserve something memorable.”

A part of me was impressed. I hadn’t thought of Wallace as the romantic type. He had always been calculated, a strategist in every move he made. But thisthis was different

Without another word, he helped me inside the helicopter. The moment he settled into the pilot’s seat, I gave him a questioning glance

You know how to fly a helicopter?”

He chuckled, flipping switches with ease. I know how to do a lot of things.”

I shook my head, but a small smile crept onto my lips

The engines roared to life, and within moments, we were soaring into the sky. The view was breathtaking

From highrise buildings, I had seen the city from above before, but never like this. The lights twinkled like scattered stars, the streets weaving intricate patterns below us. Up here, the world felt distantquiet

For a while, we didn’t speak

I simply watched, letting the beauty of it all settle in

Then Wallace’s voice cut through the hum of the helicopter

Are you falling in love with me?”

I stiffened slightly at his words. Hey, what makes you think that?”

You might if you don’t quit staring at me,” he teased

My arms crossed instinctively, a barrier against whatever he was trying to do. No,I said, my tone firm. This is just business. I can’t fall in love with you.”

His smirk deepened. What if it wasn’t just business to me?”

A lump formed in my throat. I had told myself this was nothing more than an arrangement. A deal. A partnership

But WallaceHe was making it hard to believe that

I exhaled, forcing myself to look at him. No,” I repeated. I don’t want to go through that again.”

Chapter 10

He glanced at me briefly before returning his focus to flying. Go through what?”

Falling in love. Getting hurt.”

Wallace was silent for a moment, the steady sound of the rotors filling the space between us. Then, in a voice softer than usual, he said, What if I never hurt you?”

My chest tightened. He made it sound so simple. So easy

I turned to him, searching his face. Then prove it.”

A slow smirk curled on his lips. That’s exactly what I plan to do.”

Then, with one hand still on the controls, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box

My breath caught

What-”

He flipped it open

Inside, nestled in the soft fabric, was a ring. A delicate diamond, shining under the glow of the cockpit lights

Wallace’s gaze never wavered. Even if this is business, you still deserve a proper proposal.”

I didn’t know what to say. I had never imagined getting engaged again. The very thought of marriage had left a bitter taste in my mouth ever since Bryan

But Wallace…

He didn’t seem bad at all

Maybe, just maybe, I could try again

I took a deep breath, letting my doubts linger for only a moment before I pushed them aside. Then, slowly, I nodded. Yes.”

Wallace smirked, as if he had known my answer all along. Good.”

Before I could react, he leaned in and kissed me

It was slow, unhurried, but confidentlike he had all the time in the world

For a moment, I froze

But then, my heart fluttered

And for the first time in a long time, I didn’t pull away
