Ethan rushed out of the airport.
Scarlett numbly checked her phone.
Sure enough, Summer Lane’s post was pinned at the top of her instagram.
She hadn’t said anything, just posted a picture of the painting.
And Ethan had ditched Scarlett and their agreement without a second thought.
“Miss, it’s time to board.”
Scarlett shook off her daze, tore her gaze away from his retreating figure, and walked in the opposite direction.
After landing in Arizona, Scarlett received a text from Ethan.
“I’ll be 2 days late. You go ahead.”
Scarlett was surprised he was coming at all, not just canceling.
Clearly he was desperate to divorce.
Instead of waiting, Scarlett hired a local guide and joined a tour group.
She was too weak to keep up, so she mostly rested alone in her room.
When Ethan arrived, she had already packed her suitcase to leave.
“Seriously Scarlett? I dropped everything to come to this crazy place and you’re playing
me?”
He kicked over her suitcase/in anger.
Looking at her scattered clothes, Scarlett laughed bitterly.
“Are you really here for me? Isn’t Summer right next door?”

Ethan’s face stiffened as he mumbled defensively.
“Summer’s just here for sketching trip. Why the hell can’t you stand her?”
Scarlett curled her fingers and said nothing, just bent down to pick up her clothes.
“Am I interrupting something?”
Summer suddenly appeared in the doorway.
Ethan’s anger instantly vanished.
In its place came concern and anxiety.
“Honey, You are not feeling well? Why are you up?”
“Oh, I just couldn’t sit around doing nothing! I heard loud voices and thought I’d check on
you guys.
Hearing this, Ethan finally glanced at Scarlett.
“It’s nothing. Are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat.”
Summer nodded shyly.
As Ethan was about to leave, he suddenly stopped.
He reluctantly turned to Scarlett.
“What about you? Want anything?”
Scarlett had just finished picking up the last item of clothing. Even this small task had left her sweating profusely.
She noticed the difference in his tone when speaking to her versus Summer.
“No thanks,” she said flatly,
Ethan’s expression tightened as she turned him down.

“Fine, starve yourself. Your face is already yellow as a damn ghost!”
After the door closed, only Scarlett and Summer remained.
This wasn’t the first time Scarlett had met her.
The Lane family in Brooklyn were just new money, not good enough for the Brooks family.
Summer was proud and thought the Brooks family looked down on everyone.
She’d left in anger, determined to make it big overseas.
Now she’d crawled back and her first move was to contact her ex.
To an outsider like Scarlett, the whole thing was laughable.
With Ethan gone, Summer dropped her act completely.
“Well look who it is. Scarlett, it’s been a while.”

She kicked over the suitcase Scarlett had just organized.
Watching her hard work destroyed so casually, Scarlett’s anger rose to her throat.
She knew Summer was deliberately provoking her.
And she took the bait.
With one swift move, she slapped Summer’s rosy cheek.
When Ethan returned, he saw the handprint on Summer’s face and her teary eyes.
He dropped the noodles he’d brought for Scarlett.
Without asking what happened, he strode forward and slapped Scarlett hard.
“Enough, Scarlett!”
Summer looked at Ethan with tears streaming down her face.

She rushed out of the room.
Ethan turned to follow her without a word.
Suddenly Scarlett called out to him.
“Ethan!”
