The phone was answered quickly.
Ethan didn’t wait for the person to speak.
“You’ve got some nerve, Scarlett. Standing me up? Making me look like an idiot? You think
this is funny?”
“I couldn’t give a crap about your family’s problems, but you didn’t even tell me your dad
died? Were you trying to make me look like the bad guy? Here’s the truth–I found that little
diary you keep hidden. I know you’re into me, but newsflash: I can’t stand you!”
“I don’t just dislike you–I’m disgusted by you and your entire family! So you broke our
appointment? Fine. We can settle this in court. Let’s see how tough you are without your
family’s backing!”
When he finished, the other end remained eerily silent.
There wasn’t even the sound of breathing.
Ethan frowned, about to speak again.
Suddenly the call disconnected.
He froze for a moment.
When he angrily called back, Scarlett’s phone was already turned off.
He was furious.
He immediately wanted to track down her location.
She definitely needed to be taught a lesson.
In the past when she acted like this, Ethan would have her bedridden for days.

Ethan suddenly stopped. What was he thinking?
His idea of “teaching her a lesson” was sexing with her?
Ethan figured Scarlett had driven him crazy.
So when Summer came by asking him to accompany her to an international art exhibition, he gladly agreed.
The exhibition was filled with celebrities and socialites from around the world.
When they saw Ethan with Summer instead of Scarlett, they exchanged knowing looks.
Everyone knew Ethan and Scarlett were a miserable couple.
Now with the Reid family’s collapse and the Brooks family offering zero help, it was obvious how much Ethan hated Scarlett and her family.
The savvy ones quickly sent their wives to flatter Summer.
“You and Mr. Brooks make such a perfect couple, Ms. Lane!”

have been Mrs. Brooks all along!”
Summer’s lips curled into a smile, her heart overflowing with joy.
“It’s all Scarlett’s fault! Word is, the Reid family wanted her to marry some European guy, but she flat–out refused and insisted on marrying Ethan!”
“Seriously? Doesn’t she hate him?”
The conversation suddenly shifted as the women got caught up in gossip, leaving Summer
on the sidelines.
Summer’s face darkened as she heard this.
She turned to leave in frustration.

As she turned around, she found Ethan standing right behind her.
How long had he been there? When did he arrive?
The women noticed too, laughing nervously.
“We’ll leave you two alone–going to check out the other displays!”
They hurried away, pushing each other.
But Ethan remained rooted to the spot.
Summer forced a smile and took his arm.
“When did you get here? Why didn’t you say something?”
Ethan’s expression was calm.
“Just arrived. I was about to call out to you when you turned around. Did I interrupt?”
“Not at all! They were just gossiping about nothing. Let’s check out the other gallery! They supposedly have some incredible masterpieces today.”
Ethan nodded, letting Summer cling to his arm as they walked.
But his mind was stuck on what that woman had said.
So the Reid family initially wanted Scarlett to marry someone else, not into the Brooks
family.
This marriage was something she had fought for?
Why would she do that?
Could it be that she had loved him even before they were married?
