Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Ethan Brooks and Scarlett Reid had been enemies since they were kids.
That year, they ended up as the only suitable match for a business alliance marriage in
their social circle.
Ethan insisted he’d rather die than marry Scarlett.
This sparked her interest. “Then I’m definitely marrying you. Go die!”
On their wedding day, Ethan released dozens of pussycats to humiliate her.
she picked one up without flinching“hubby.”
Ethan’s smug smile faded instantly.
Looking at the stubborn woman determined to marry him, he sneered. “You’ll regret.Trust
me.”
Three years later, Scarlett caught Ethan cheating for the ninety–ninth time.
Only until then did she truly understand what he really meant by regret.
After an overnight flight, Scarlett stood exhausted in their bedroom doorway. The floor was
a mess of discarded clothes and the musky smell twisted her stomach.
Ethan lounged shirtless in bed with his hands all over a woman wearing Scarlett’s silk
nightgown.
He noticed Scarlett and smirked.
“Check it out! Looks better on her than on you, right?”
“Hey Scarlett! Ninety–ninth times, huh? You still hanging around after all this shit?”
Scarlett rubbed her queasy stomach. For once, she didn’t fight back against his cruelty.
“Get dressed. We need to talk.”

Ethan laughed at her back. “Talk? What the hell do we have to talk about?”
Scarlett stopped without turning around. “Divorce.”
Ethan’s jaw dropped. “Finally! my dream come true!”
Scarlett had barely sat in the study for five minutes when Ethan burst in, fully dressed. His
eagerness was obvious.
“Are you joking?” His eyes were full of contempt.
She silently pushed the divorce agreement toward him.
“As you wish, sign it.”
Ethan grabbed the document suspiciously. He couldn’t believe Scarlett would actually divorce him. The Reid family had lost all their status, and he’d assumed she’d cling to his money until the bitter end.
Reading the agreement left him stunned. She wasn’t asking for anything–not even the
apartment.
“Seriously? You’re not planning to make a scence at my family’s estate later?”
Scarlett remained calm. “I’m serious. No drama. Promise.”
Ethan quickly signed his name, his lips curving into a smile as the burden lifted.
“Let’s hit the court now. Thirty–day divorce cooling–off period–I don’t want to waste another damn day with you!”
“Now?” Scarlett frowned.
“Ha! Getting cold feet already?”
Despite her cramping stomach, Scarlett couldn’t stand his smug look. “OK, Let’s go.”
They filed the paperwork quickly. The clerk handed them a form and started explaining, “If you change your mind within thirty days-”

“No way,” Ethan cut in, tossing the pen down with a grin.
Scarlett found Ethan’s car still parked at the curb. He honked at her.
He lowered his window and took off his sunglasses with a relaxed smile.
“Look, Scarlett, we’ve fucked, so I guess that counts for something. Don’t worry about next
guy. This guy seems pretty good.”
He held out a business card, hoping to embarrass her.
To his shock, she took it. “Thanks. I’ll think about it.”
She walked away calmly, leaving Ethan speechless.
What Ethan didn’t know was that these thirty days weren’t just a countdown to divorce.
They were Scarlett’s countdown to death.
