Serena woke up early the next day. She felt energized and prepared a hearty breakfast for her first day at Quade Group
Lauren was still sound asleep as she was leaving, yet her phone was ringing incessantly beside her. Serena glanced at it and noticed the caller ID–Stupid Boss.
She thought for a moment and picked it up. “Hello, I’m Laurie’s friend. She’s feeling unwell today and might need to take the day off.”
Lauren complained about him so often that Sereha assumed her boss was a middle–aged man with a beer belly and a receding hairline. To her surprise, his voice sounded young–even polite.
“Alright, please let her know she has the day off. Her health is important.”
“Okay, I’ll let her know.“.
“Alright, I’ll hang up now.”
Serena placed the phone back on the nightstand. She looked at Lauren, who was sprawled on the bed like a dead woman, and shook her head. She really had no reason to be ungrateful with such a nice boss.
The apartment was very close to the Quade Group. It was just a five–minute walk. By the time she arrived at the office, there was still half an hour before work started.
Carrying her breakfast, Serena carefully knocked on the door to the CEO’s office. Wilson was already there.
He wore a silver–gray suit as he sat in a black leather chair, wirling a pen in his hand while fixated on the stock market trends on the screen.
His jet–black hair was meticulously combed, revealing a sharp, cold, and strikingly handsome face. Compared to his usual laid–back demeanor, he seemed more composed and serious.
Wilson glanced at her before saying, “You’re full of energy. You’re still able to show up this early today after staying up late last night.”
Serena walked over and placed the fragrant breakfast on his desk, along with a cup of hot coffee she had bought downstairs.
Wilson asked, “What’s this for?”
“A breakfast I made, but I’m not sure if it suits your taste.”
“Oh?”
Wilson stood up. Heppened the takeout box she brought, revealing two sandwiches and pancakes. It was beautifully prepared and was no less impressive than something sold at a breakfast diner.
He picked up a sandwich, took a bite, and proceeded to inmediately frown slightly. Justin, that scoundrel–did he have access to such good food this whole time?
Serena watched hid reaction nervously. She felt slightly disappointed when she saw Wilson furrow his brows and look displeased. It seemed like he didn’t like it.
“It tastes good.” After finishing slowly, Wilson gave his verdict.
“Really?” Serena asked, her face lighting up.
“Yeah.”

Seeing the sparkle in her eyes, like a child delighted by a teacher’s praise, Wilson couldn’t help but smile faintly. ” Why’d you bring me breakfast for no reason? Is there something you want from me?”
“No… I actually just wanted to apologize.”
“Go on,”
“I remembered that we did meet when we were kids,” Serena admitted somewhat embarrassedly. “You fought Joseph for me back then, but… I didn’t stand up for you.”
Wilson cut straight to the point. “Not standing up for me? Yi outright turned on me.”
Serena remained silent before admitting her fault, “I’m sincerely apologizing to you now.”
“I don’t accept it.”
What was this? She didn’t expect him to hold a grudge.
Wilson picked up the coffee beside him and took a slow sip. I suffered quite a bit because of that incident when I went home that day. Do you think I can just let it go?”
He then tapped the coffee cup with his slender fingers. “Make me breakfast every day from now on, and I’ll forgive you.”
Serena was stunned. That was it?
Wilson lowered his gaze. “What’s wrong? Are you unwilling?”
“No, I’m willing. Just send me the kind of food you like, and I’ll take note.”
“No need. I’ll eat whatever you make.”
So, he was not picky. Well, that made him much easier to deal with than Justin. With that settled, Serena felt as if a long–buried issue had finally been resolved. She felt so much lighter.
“Well then, Mr. Quade, I’ll go look for Mr. York and familiarize myself with the company’s operations. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Wait” W
“Wilson stopped her and raised his sharp eyes with a hint of amusement. “I have a gift for you.”
“A gift?”
Wilson then motioned for her to come closer.
Serena stepped forward and watched as he turned the screen on his desk. The display showed a collaboration agreement between Quade Group and a foreign tech company.
Serena’s eyes widened in surprise after seeing the content. Daniel Perez… this project… wasn’t it…”
“Yes, it was Farrow Corporation’s. Now it’s mine.” Wilson’s deep eyes glimmered with a subtle light. “This is your welcome gift. Do you like it?”
Serena stared at the screen, not moving an inch.
“Doesn’t seem like you do,” Wilson remarked as he turned the screen back. “I get it–your horrendous ex–boss was someone you admired deeply. You’re probably cursing me in your head now that I’ve taken his project.”
“No. It’s just that back when I was at Farrow Corporation was in charge of this project. I thought I handled it well, but you still managed to take it away”

A trace of defeat crossed Schena’s face. “It makes me question my own abilities.”
Wilson chuckled when he realized this was the reason she looked upset. “The problem isn’t you. The reason. Farrow Corporation lost this project is because they lost you. In other words… Serena, you’re very capable.”
Wilson’s words spun her around, and she couldn’t help but feel they made sense.
“Anyway, you’re already familiar with this project, so you’ll continue to lead it here. Can you handle it?”
“I can. I won’t let you down.” Serena instantly felt a surge of motivation. “Then, Mr. Quade, I’ll head out now.”
As she left the CEO’s office, Sebastian noticed the smile on her face and asked, “Ms. Judd, what are you smiling about?”
“I just think that Mr. Quade is actually pretty nice. He’s not at all like the rumors,” said Serena
Sebastian went silent.
“Don’t you think so?” Serena pushed further.
“I suppose…” Not at all. Sebastian kept to himself.

Back at Farrow Corporation, the atmosphere across the entire company loudly today.
The door to the CEO’s office was tightly shut, and sounds of things being smashed could be heard from inside. A moment later, Zane emerged with a pale face.
Candice immediately stepped forward and asked, “Mr. Sullivan, is Mr. Farrow still very angry?”
“Yes, Mr. Farrow hasn’t been this furious in a long time.”
Daniel’s project had fallen through, and all the effort and hard work invested in it were wasted. The worst part? The project was taken by Wilson Quade
of all people, it had to be Quade Group
It wasn’t enough for them to take Serena–they had now taken a project from them too. Justin was likely on the verge of losing his mind with anger.
“Mr. Farrow is that upset? Let me go in and comfort him,” Candice suggested.
However, Zane shook his head, “Mr. Farrow is in a bad mood right now, Ms. Ashton. It’s better if you don’t go in and make things worse.”
If Serena were here, Zane thought that she’d definitely be able to ease Justin’s stress. But as for Candice.. Justin simply didn’t want to say more.
Candice noticed the look on his face. “Mr. Sullivan, are you doubting my abilities?”
“No, it’s just that’m concerned. Mr. Farrow’s moods are hard for most people to grasp. Only Ms. Judd –” He stopped mid–sentence, realizing he had said too much. Zane quickly cut himself off.
Candice sneered coldly. “This company belongs to the Farrow family, not the Judd family. Don’t forget, I’m not just Justin’s secretary–I’m also his girlfriend. I know how to make him feel better.”
With that, she shot Zane a cold glance and pushed open the door to the CEO’s office. Whatever Serena could do, Candice believed she could do just as well.
