Natalie froze, her body stiffening as Jonas’s words crashed over her like an icy/wave. The sheer shock made her instinctively jerk back, her upper body arching ever so slightly–only to collide with the unyielding wall of his chest.
Her breath hitched, a startled gasp lodged in her throat as she immediately recoiled, sinking into the mattress beneath her like a cornered animal seeking refuge.
Jonas had only meant to tease her. After all, no matter how desperate he might get, he had no intention of entertaining any kind of entanglement with a “little spy” whose motives seemed far from innocent.
But the moment Natalie’s soft form pressed against him, something primal flickered in his gaze. His usual restraint faltered as his eyes darkened, their depths holding an intensity he could no longer mask. A sardonic chuckle escaped him, low and edged with provocation. “Getting a little wild, aren’t we?”
Natalie’s heart plummeted. He had clearly misunderstood her. Though she lacked experience in matters of romance, she wasn’t entirely oblivious. Jonas’s breaths were heavier now, the rhythm of his chest rising and falling in a way that set off every alarm in her head.
Panic clawed its way to the surface, and she blurted out hastily, “I was… I was worried you might be cold. So, I thought I’d grab something to cover you.”
Her tongue darted out nervously to moisten her dry, tingling lips. Wide–eyed and desperate to appear sincere, she met his gaze and her delicate features contorted with earnestness, practically pleading for him to believe her.
Jonas tilted his head back slightly, his profile catching the moonlight filtering through the gaps in the structure. The faint glow illuminated Natalie’s face beneath him—her flawless skin, her luminous eyes that shimmered with innocence, as if butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth.
‘She’s good,‘ Jonas mused, the corners of his mouth curling in amusement. “That pretty face could fool anyone. And now that lovely mouth of hers is spinning another story.
Interest reignited in his expression, a devilish smirk dancing on his lips as he leaned closer. “So, sweetheart, you were worried about my ankles catching a chill? Planning to wrap them up for me, were you?”
Natalie’s face burned at his words. She hadn’t realized he’d been awake all along. ‘No wonder his leg started feeling heavier…..
“He was watching me the whole time like some kind of twisted spectator, letting me play the fool, even pressing down with his leg on purpose just to mess with me.’
Humiliation and indignation swirled inside her, but she bit them back, knowing better than to lash out. She forced herself to speak calmly, her voice tinged with panic, “Actually… I was feeling cold. I just thought if I stayed close to you, I’d warm up faster.”
What she didn’t dare admit was the real reason for her actions–the gnawing fear that Jonas might abandon her out here in the middle of nowhere.
His temperament was unpredictable, and she knew better than to give him ideas. If the truth sparked some cruel whim, he might very well leave her behind just for sport.
Jonas’s eyes gleamed with mischief, his lips quirking as if he were buying into her excuse. “Oh…” he drawled lazily, his tone dripping with mock acceptance, “is that so?”
But before Natalie could breathe a sigh of relief, she felt it–his hand, warm and slightly rough with calluses, sliding against her leg.
The touch was electrifying, her body going rigid as every nerve screamed at her to move. Fear and disbelief collided in her chest, her teeth clenching to suppress the urge to shout.

Tears prickled at the corners of her eyes, her humiliation now mingled with dread. “Don’t… don’t do this…” she whispered, her voice trembling.
They were isolated, stranded in the middle of nowhere. Just the two of them. Af Jonas truly intended to push things further, there would be no escape. She had followed him willingly, and now she was at his mercy.
Jonas watched her intently, his gaze fixed on the subtle tremor in her lips and the way her tear–brightened eyes glistened with vulnerability.
Moments ago, she had been quick–witted and defiant, sparring with him like she could hold her own. But now, she looked utterly defeated, her fragile composure cracking as her emotions bled through her expression.
Something about her broken resistance tugged at him in a way he hadn’t anticipated. That soft, quivering voice of hers- laced with just the faintest hint of a sob–gnawed at his control, tempting him to the edge of reason.
His thoughts turned cold, a sharp contrast to the heat simmering in his veins. ‘What a masterpiece of temptation she is.
Jonas’s voice dropped lower, his tone rich and velvety as he leaned even closer. A teasing, alluring smile played on his lips, betraying the wicked amusement dancing in his eyes. “Relax. I’m just warming you up, sweetheart.”
Natalie felt a deafening buzz in her head, like her mind had short–circuited under the crushing weight of helplessness and fear. After a brief moment of blank terror, she began to thrash like a fish gasping for air, desperate to escape.
But her frantic struggle was no match for Jonas’s iron grip–he subdued her effortlessly, his strength unyielding.
“Don’t… I…” Natalie stammered, her voice trembling. Before she could finish, she found herself enveloped in his warmth, his solid, unyielding body pressing against hers. Yet, to her surprise, he didn’t take things further.
A faint scoff escaped Jonas’s lips, the sound brushing against her ear as his breath–warm and slightly damp–teased the delicate curve.
His voice, low and teasing, sent shivers racing down her spine. “Don’t what?”
