Chapter 146 A Secret Meeting with Summer

For a moment, I couldn’t figure it out

I mean, yeahI had to admit it. Over the past few weeks, my feelings for Ryan had definitely grown. I was drawn to him, pulled in deeper every day. I wanted more. More of him

Butwas that love

Love was supposed to be this powerful, unforgettable thingsomething that carves itself into your soul. What I felt for Ryan felt more like an intense pull, maybe even a kind of emotional dependency I was drawn in. Addicted to the softness he showed, and the safety I felt with him

But was that truly love

The question kept looping in my head during the entire ride, refusing to let me find peace

That night, I had the strangest dream

In the dream, I heard a young boy’s voice. Fragile Desperate Scared

MommyMommy…

My heart tightened so suddenly it stole my breath. I instinctively wanted to respond, to reach outbut no matter how hard I tried, everything around me was blurred and shapeless

I searched desperately, arms reaching out, my heart pounding. But no matter how hard I tried, the

voice stayed out of reach, hidden in the mist. I never saw his face Just that small, scared voice calling

me

I woke up gasping, drenched in sweat, my cheeks wet with tears

It had felt so real. Real enough to shake me to my bones

I stared up at the ceiling, motionless, my hand drifting down to my belly. My fingers felt cold

Why would I dream something like that

The images haunted me through breakfast. I couldn’t shake them, even as I sat beside Ryan at the table

I hesitated for what felt like forever before I finally asked, quietly

Ryan. did we ever have a child before?”

He was peeling a hardboiled egg for me. The question made him freeze

Slowly, he looked up. His expression gave away nothing. Then, just as calmly, he reached over and patted my head like everything was fine

No. The baby you’re carrying now is our first.”

I bit my lower lip, feeling this strange, hollow sadness spread through me

Is that really true

Then who was the child in my dream

Ryan tilted his head, giving me a halfsmile that didn’t quite reach his eyes

*What made you ask something like that?he asked, voice light, but there was a trace of caution under

it

an

I stirred my milk slowly, my thoughts a mess

No reason. Just something that popped into my head.”

Ryan smiled again and let it go without pressing further

But my mind was spiraling

Why did that dream feel so real

That child had called me Mommy. His voiceit felt familiar. Like something buried deep inside was trying to break through

If it was just a dream, why did it feel like I was being torn apart

Something wasn’t right. I could feel it

I tried to shake it off, to push it down, but it was already too late. The doubt had taken rootand it was spreading fast, twisting and growing with every heartbeat

Maybemaybe seeing Summer could clear things up

But could I really trust her

She clearly wasn’t a fan of mine. And sneaking around behind Ryan’s backthat didn’t feel right

I exhaled a long, shaky breath. My head was spinning

What if Ryan was hiding something

What if he was hiding something importanton purpose

And once that thought planted itself in my mind, there was no letting it go. It hit me like a gut punch, knocking the wind out of me

I spent two whole days overthinking before it was finally time to meet Summer

We had arranged to meet in a private room at an upscale coffee shop

When I opened the door, she was already thereof course

She wore a sleek champagnecolored dress that hugged her frame, her makeup flawless. It was obvious she’d taken her time getting ready. She still looked stunningjust like the last time I saw her

at the mall

She sat stirring her coffee like it was the most delicate thing in the world. When she noticed me step in, she offered a faint smile, her eyes narrowing just slightly with interest

Gabrielle, she said smoothly, setting her spoon down with a soft clink. You really kept your word. Came alone, just like you said.

That tonesubtle, almost playfulimmediately put me on edge. I pulled out the chair across from her and sat down slowly, locking eyes with her. My voice was calm, steady

What do you want from me? You can just say it. No need for games.”
