Chapter 138 Paternity Test
Ryan
I sat at my desk, my fingers lightly tapping on the documents in front of me, but my eyes were fixed on my phone screen.
A message had just popped up from Eric.
[From Ms. May’s condition, we’ll soon be able to arrange a non–invasive prenatal paternity test.]
My fingers tightened slightly around the phone, and my heart pounded violently in my chest.
Once the test was done, I would finally know if Gabby’s baby was mine.
I exhaled sharply, rubbing my temples before quickly firing off a reply.
[Remember, this is handled carefully. Gabby can’t know about it, and her health comes first. I don’t want her overthinking it.]
Eric’s response was instant.
[Understood. Everything will remain confidential. We’ll extract the fetal DNA from her blood under the guise of a routine checkup and compare it with yours.]
Only after reading that did my chest loosen a little.
I set m
my phone down, leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes.
Scenes from that night in the banquet hall’s lounge flooded my mind.
She had been burning up, her body feverish, her voice soft and hazy. Her lips had parted slightly as she murmured, “So hot-”
My Adam’s apple bobbed, and my fingers instinctively curled.
If–if that child was mine, then that one unexpected night had changed everything.
I opened my eyes, my heartbeat accelerating.
Just the thought sent a wave of emotions surging through me. No matter what, I had to know the tru

I tried to refocus on the paperwork in front of me, but it was useless. My mind kept spinning,
Lately, I had been traveling frequently between Haborbrook and Bellton.
My family was still in Haborbrook–especially my father. I had to visit him regularly.
But under no circumstances could I take Gabby back to Haborbrook. If she returned, Vincent would definitely find her.
And if that happened, he would do everything in his power to take her from me.
I would never allow that to happen.
I wasn’t proud of my methods.

I had kept Gabby by my side with lies, spinning a reality where she believed that I was her husband, ensuring that she depended on me.
But this was my only shot.
I had waited too damn long.
In this lifetime, I wasn’t losing her again.
Gabby and I had been getting closer, but deep down, I knew it was all built on a lie.
If she ever remembered the truth–if she realized what I’d done.
A chill ran down my spine.
And then, I thought of Summer.
She was a threat–a big one.
Last time at the mall, she had already let a few things slip in front of Gabby.
If she said anything else, Gabby would definitely start putting the pieces together.
If she found out about her past with Vincent–if she remembered everything-
My grip on my phone tightened until my knuckles tumed bone–white.
No. I couldn’t let that happen.
Taking a deep breath, I quickly sent a message to my secretary, Finn.
[Keep a close eye on Summer. If she does anything out of ordinary, let me know immediately.]
My phone lit up with a quick reply.
[Got it]
Then, almost instantly, my phone rang. Finn called me.
I answered, “What is it?”
His voice was low, cautious. Tve been watching Vincent, like you asked. And–something seems off.”
I straightened in my chair, my grip tightened around the phone.
“What do you mean?”
Finn hesitated for a second before continuing.
“He’s been to Oracle Attorneys headquarters multiple times, asking about you. And behind the scenes, he’s been digging, sending people to investigate your whereabouts.”
A sharp jolt ran through me
Vincent was looking for me?
“What has he found out?” I clenched my jaw
