Chapter 4
The kind nurse felt bad for me.
She arranged the best private caregiver and introduced me to the top rehab team.
With effort, I sat up in my wheelchair, ready to transfer to a private ward.
The woman in the next bed glanced at me as I moved,
Our eyes met.
Michael’s new sweetheart wasn’t stunning, but she had a delicate, sickly beauty that made people
want to protect her.
She was Michael’s type–a breath of fresh air.
His newly hired intern–Hailey.
She held her phone between her shoulder and ear, batting her lashes as she whined:
“I heard that therapist is amazing!”
“You have to pull some strings for me.”
I almost gagged.”
“I knew exactly what she was doing–trying to get Michael to secure my rehab team for her.
Typical. Like a dog stealing food.
I swallowed my disgust and wheeled myself out of there.
The new ward was nice–expensive, but no complaints.
Away from the fragile princess next door, I finally got a good night’s sleep.
Just as I woke up, there was a knock at the door.

The nurse walked in, looking uneasy.
“Miss, the hospital says there’s only one VIP room left, and a very important guest needs it.”
I nodded silently.
Before I could respond, another knock came.
My physical therapist stepped in, looking nervous and guilty.
“I’m so sorry, Miss Sarah.”
“I won’t be able to continue your treatment.”
“Someone paid ten times the price for my services… I hope you understand.”
Maybe my expression was too cold because he started fidgeting.
“Miss Sarah, it’s not about the money.”
“It’s Johnson’s wife.”
“She demanded I work exclusively for her… I… I can’t afford to offend her.”
I let out a cold laugh.
My suspicions were confirmed.
Dogs really are quick to snatch up scraps.
