Chapter 15
By the time Michael came back, I was long gone, starting fresh in a new city.
My company had grown a lot.
It wasn’t on Michael’s level yet, but I was making steady progress.
When he finally tracked me down a month later, I had already built a solid foundation in Chicago.
I poured him a glass of water, my tone indifferent.
“No tea, Mr. Johnson. Hope you don’t mind.”
Michael slapped the glass out of my hand, his face dark with anger.
“Sarah, I told you–I’m not agreeing to this divorce!”
“That’s not up to you.”
His jaw clenched, his brows furrowed so hard they almost twisted.
“What do you even want? I already admitted I was wrong!”
“I promised I’d cut Hailey off–why are you pushing me to this point?”
“Do the seven years we spent together mean nothing to you?”
“Why can’t you just stay my wife?”
“Because I don’t want to.”
I cut him off coldly and pulled out the envelope of photos.
His expression froze.
He took an instinctive step back, his lips going pale.
“There’s nothing to explain,” I said.

“And I don’t need your excuses.”
“Go find Hailey.”
I turned and walked away.
As I reached the door, I heard a dull thud–Michael had fallen to his knees.
“Not even one last chance?” His voice cracked.
“Baby, I really messed up. I know that now.”
I didn’t say a word.
I just asked him to leave.
Now? Now he realized he was wrong?
Too little, too late.
In the end, Michael gave in.
He knew if I took this to court, he wouldn’t stand a chance.
The moment I walked out of the courthouse, I looked up at the bright blue sky, feeling lighter than I
had in years.
Hailey, dressed to the nines,
ame running toward Michael in tears.
But before she could reach him, Jake stepped in front of her.
“Miss Hailey, I’m sorry. Mr. Johnson won’t be seeing you anymore.”
“Darling!”
Michael snapped.
A sharp slap echoed in the air.
“Who gave you the right to call me that?”

Hailey clutched her face, stunned.
“But… I-”
Michael turned to Jake, his voice icy.
“Why is she still here? Get her out of my sight.”
I stood on the courthouse steps, watching the familiar scene unfold.
Seven years of marriage.
Michael, you’ve changed too much.
