At the critical moment, Vincent shouted, his voice laced with panic,
“Don’t hurt her!”
We weren’t far apart–I could clearly see the raw tension and pain
carved on his face.
But at this point, I didn’t care what he was thinking.
My heart was numb, frozen by despair.
Without Toby, my world had already collapsed.
What was the point of living? Everything felt empty.
The masked man narrowed his eyes, watching Vincent like a predator
sizing up its prey, as if the game wasn’t entertaining enough yet.
Then, without warning, he spun around and pointed the dagger at
Claire.
“Ah! Don’t kill me!” Claire shrieked, her voice shaking.
“No–don’t do this!” Vincent’s face turned ghostly pale, and he
instinctively stepped forward.
Claire sobbed uncontrollably, her voice trembling, “Vince, it doesn’t
matter if I die–but what about our baby?”

Her tear–filled eyes shimmered with feigned innocence. Choking back more sobs, she whimpered, “If I wasn’t pregnant, I’d gladly give up my life to save Gabby–But Vince, I’m carrying your child! I can’t die–l want our baby to live, to see this world—”
I almost laughed.
Claire was truly a master manipulator. Playing the victim, tugging at a man’s sympathy had always been her greatest talent.
I had seen through her long ago.
Her words dripped with selflessness, but every single one was meant carefully to push Vincent into choosing her.
And sure enough, Vincent hesitated.
His gaze softened as he looked at Claire, his face filled with distress. He whispered to her in a soothing voice, “Don’t be scared, Claire—I’ll save you and our baby-”
I stood frozen, watching it all unfold, my silent tears slipping down my
face.
Vincent–If only you knew, I am carrying your child too.
But you will never know.
Because you don’t deserve to be my baby’s father.
I screamed these words in my heart, letting the pain claw through me.

“So, are you choosing Claire?” the masked man asked, his voice dripping with amusement.

Vincent stiffened. His expression flickered with guilt. Then suddenly,
his head snapped up, and he looked at me, his voice rough, “No–I
want to save Gabby too.”
But the masked man let out a low chuckle, shaking his head as if mocking Vincent’s naïve foolishness.
His voice turned cold,” You really don’t get it, do you? You can only
save one!”
Silence pressed down like a weight.
Vincent’s face grew even more paler, his pain so intense it seemed to
tear him apart.
His gaze flickered between Claire and me, his body trembling.
It was clear–he was still hesitating.
Finally, Vincent fixed his gaze on me, his voice barely above a whisper, “Gabby, why are you crying? Are you afraid?”
I met his eyes, shook my head, and let out a choked sob, “Vincent-”
I took a shaky breath, “I already know where Toby is.”
Vincent’s body jolted violently as if struck, “Toby? You know where he
is?”

I turned toward the surging waves of the ocean, my vision blurred by tears. My voice was barely audible, “Toby is gone–He was pushed
into the ocean-”
Vincent staggered back. His face twisted in disbelief as he shouted,
“No, That’s impossible!”
I didn’t respond. I just stared at the endless waves, “Toby is gone–and
without him, I have no reason to live either.”
Vincent’s expression changed instantly.
“Thirty seconds left!” The masked man’s impatient voice shattered the
moment.
“Only thirty seconds, Vincent. Make your choice now, or they’ll both
die.”
