The moment the words left my mouth, I felt the warmth of Ryan’s palm–and instantly regretted saying
them.
Damn it. What was I thinking? This was Ryan–the most powerful man in all of Harborbrook! In my anger, I’d actually claimed we were dating-
I swallowed hard, avoiding Ryan’s gaze. All I could do was pray he wouldn’t expose my lie right away. If he did, I’d be completely humiliated in front of Vincent.
Vincent froze for a moment before his face darkened, “Ha! Gabrielle, you finally admitted it!” His voice dripped with bitterness. “I knew something was going on between you and Uncle! Now that I’ve caught you red–handed, what do you have to say for yourself?”
“Oh please, Vincent! Stop acting like the victim. You and Claire have been hooking up, and you even had a kid behind my back. If you could cheat on me, why the hell should I stay loyal to you?” I rolled my eyes at him.
“I–Claire and I–that was totally an accident!” Vincent was still in denial. “But you, Gabrielle–how could you seduce Uncle? Have you no shame?”
His voice grew louder, almost hysterical, “When did you start this? You’ve been cheating on me all along, haven’t you? Is Toby even my real son?”
Vincent was losing it, about to blow a fuse.
His accusations made my blood boil. He had the audacity to accuse me of seducing Ryan? To question Toby’s paternity? I was seething, ready to slap him right then and there.
But before I could fire back, Ryan suddenly pulled me into his arms–and kissed my cheek right in front
of Vincent.
I froze, eyes wide, my brain short–circuiting.
“Ryan! Gabrielle!” Vincent lost it. His male ego clearly couldn’t handle what he was seeing.
He lunged at me, his veins bulging with rage.
Ryan shoved him back effortlessly, then calmly dusted off his sleeves like nothing had happened, “You’ve got it all wrong, Vincent.” His voice was cool, almost amused. “Gabrielle didn’t seduce me–l seduced her.”
I nearly chocked.
Oh. My. God. Ryan was actually going along with my lie? But this–this was too much!
“Vincent, bullying a woman doesn’t prove you’re a man. If you’ve got an issue, deal with me instead.” Ryan raised an eyebrow, his tone icy.
Vincent stood there, shaking with fury, his bloodshot locked on me.
I smirked. This was all Vincent was capable of–bullying me while not daring to challenge Ryan directly.
After all, I had no power, so he could push me around all he wanted, but when it came to Ryan? He

couldn’t afford to mess with
“Gabby, how could you do this?” Claire’s voice chimed in suddenly, all sweet and pitiful Heart Vi been good to you? How could you get together with his Uncle just to get back at him
She glanced between Ryan and me, jealousy flickered in her eyes,
Oh, I knew my sister well, Claire had been like this since we were kids—always wanting what was mine. First, she wanted my toys. Now, she’d stolen my husband,
She probably couldn’t stand the fact that Ryan was into me and not her, and it was eating her up
inside.
“Ms. May, maybe your should reflect on your own actions before judging others.” Ryan tightened his grip around my waist and turned his cold gaze to Claire. “You destroyed someone else’s family–what give you the right to lecture Gabby?”
“Furthermore, you have no right to judge my girlfriend. Disrespect Gabby again, and I promise you’ll regret it.”
His voice carried undeniable authority, making Claire visibly shrink–her face drained of color
Power was real game–changer.
But I stood there, completely frozen, my thoughts looping around Ryan’s words.
He’d just called me “his girlfriend-”
