I followed Ryan as he strode away, his urgency only making me more certain that something was off.
Summer chased after us for a few steps, but when it became clear Ryan had no intention of acknowledging her, she finally gave up. Still, her voice rang out from behind.
“Ry, you’ll regret this one day!”
Instinctively, I glanced back. Tears shimmered in her eyes, her lips
pressed into a tight line. But it was the way she looked at me that
caught my attention–resentment, jealousy, and something even more
complicated.
I blinked, momentarily thrown off guard, then let out a soft, amused
huff.
Turning back to Ryan, I reached out and poked his arm, lowering my
voice, “Summer really seems to like you.”
His expression remained indifferent, his deep voice effortlessly
magnetic, “Feelings can’t be forced. You’re the only one I care about.”
I cleared my throat, caught completely off guard.
How did he always manage to drop these lines so casually, without any warning? Every single time, it made my heart race.

Taking a steadying breath, I hesitated before asking, “Does Summer-
not know we’re married? She doesn’t seem to undertstand our
relationship.”
Ryan’s steps faltered–just for a second. A beat of silence passed
before he answered, his tone calm and detached, “She and I were
never close. I didn’t see the need to tell her.”
Something in his voice reassured me, easing a tension I hadn’t even
realized was there. He really didn’t care about Summer.
“Oh-” I murmured absently, before deciding to tease him, “But you’re being pretty heartless to Miss Miller. She’s still just a young woman-
you’re bound to break her heart.”
I meant as a joke, but before I could react, Ryan suddenly stopped.
With one hand full of shopping bags, he pressed his other hand
against the wall beside me, effortlessly trapping me in place.
My breath hitched, my mind scrambling to catch up as his familiar
scent–warm pine and something distinctly him–wrapped around me.
Then he chuckled, his voice low and smooth, “That’s right. I’m heartless to every woman–except you.”
My brain short–circuited.
‘Did I hear that right? Did he seriously just say that? In the middle of a crowded shopping mall?‘

I stared at him, wide–eyed, but before I could fully process, he leaned
in even closer. His warm breath brushed my ear, his voice dropping to
a husky whisper.
“I suddenly want to kiss you right here. What should I do?”
My breath caught in my throat, my whole body locked up.
‘This is a mall! There are people everywhere! It was bad enough when
he ambushed me at home, but now here?‘
Heat rushed to my face. Panicking, I shoved at his chest, words
tumbling out in a flustered stammer. “I–I’m hungry! Let’s go eat!”
Ryan chuckled, clearly amused. The smirk on his lips told me he had
me completely figured out, “What do you want to eat?”
“French,” I blurted out, desperate for a distraction.
“Alright, French it is.” He agreed easily, but then–because of course
he did he leaned in one more time, his lips barely grazing my ear as he murmured, “Then after dinner–we’ll pick up where we left off.”
I swallowed hard, my mind spinning.
How is any woman supposed to resist this man?

Half an hour later, we arrived at one of Bellton’s top–tier French
restaurants.

Ryan had reserved a private dining room–just the two of us. The atmosphere was elegant, refined, undeniably romantic.
He handled the ordering effortlessly, speaking with the waiter like a regular. Before I knew it, he had picked out nearly all the restaurant’s signature dishes, leaving me no room to object.
“That’s way too much food,” I muttered, eyeing the menu.
Ryan glanced at me, his tone casual yet warm, “You haven’t had much
of an appetite lately. I figured ordering a variety would help us find
something you actually like.”
His thoughtfulness caught me off guard, sending a gentle warmth
through my chest.
For a moment, it really felt like a date.
No–more than that. It felt like something even deeper, something
more intimate.
Like a quiet evening between newlyweds.
The ambiance in the private room grew heavier, charged with
something unspoken. Under the soft, golden glow of the lights, Ryan’s
gaze on me was warm–too warm. My pulse quickened.
And despite myself, I found that I was–anticipating what might happen next.
