The cashier glanced between us and Summer, clearly caught in an awkward position. After a brief hesitation, she offered an apologetic smile, “I’m sorry, but this handbag is a limited edition. There’s only one
available in Bellton.”
Summer’s face froze for a second before she turned to Ryan, her voice
suddenly soft and sweet, “Ry, I really like this bag.”
Her tone had a pleading edge, her eyes filled with expectation–like
she was completely sure Ryan wouldn’t say no.
An uneasy feeling crept over me. The whole situation was awkward,
and for some reason, it bothered me way more than I wanted to
admit.
Still, I didn’t want to put Ryan in a tough spot. So just as I was about to say something, he spoke first–without hesitation, “I’m buying this for Gabby. She likes it too.”
Summer’s expression darkened instantly. She bit her lip, clearly not expecting Ryan to shut her down so easily.
Her gaze flickered between us before she let out a sharp scoff, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “You’re seriously buying her a bag this expensive? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you two were a
couple.”
I muttered under my breath, “We’re not just a couple–we’re married—”

I hadn’t meant for anyone to hear, but Ryan did. His lips curved
slightly, like he was silently confirming my words. Summer, however,
didn’t seem to catch it. She just kept staring at us, suspicion clouding
her face.
That’s when it hit me–did she not know about my relationship with
Ryan?
She opened her mouth like she wanted to say more, but Ryan’s patience had clearly worn thin. His expression turned icy as he shot her a sharp look, “Miss Miller, if you’re done, you should leave. I’m
busy.”
Without waiting for a response, he turned to the cashier and gave a
firm nod, “Charge the card.”
The cashier didn’t hesitate. She quickly moved to process the
payment.
But Summer wasn’t ready to give up. She looked like she was gearing
up for another arguement.
This time, Ryan didn’t say a word—he just gave her a look. A silent
warning.
Summer clenched her jaw, clearly frustrated. But after a tense second, she pulled her card back. Under her breath, she muttered,
“Unbelievable–I can’t believe Ry treats Gabrielle this well. What’s so
special about her?”
Then, turning her glare on me, she sneered. “I knew you weren’t simple

Her eyes burned with hostility as she continued, “I had my suspicions the moment I saw you at the apartment and the law firm. And I was
right.”
I could only offer a small, helpless smile.
I had no idea what she was talking about. My past was still a blur–l
barely remembered anything from years ago.
Ryan, clearly uninterested in dragging this out any further, swiped his
card. With one arm full of shopping bags, he grabbed my hand with
the other and led me toward the exit.
But Summer still wasn’t done.
She stepped in front of us, blocking our way, her gaze locked onto our intertwined fingers. Shock and jealousy flashed across her face, “How can you two be so affectionate in public? What if Vincent-”
She barely got the name out before Ryan cut her off, his voice sharp with irritation, “Summer, if you keep interfering, I won’t be so polite
next time.”
For the first time, real anger laced his tone.
Summer flinched slightly, her lips pressing together like she was debating whether to keep fighting. In the end, she stayed quiet, but the resentment and suspicion in her eyes remained.

As for me, my mind was spinning.
Vincent.
That name echoed in my head.

It wasn’t the first time I had heard it. And every time I did, a strange sensation inside me stirred–an ache, like a wound I didn’t remember getting. Like something important had been erased from my memory.
‘What was my past with Vincent?‘
Ryan had always avoided the topic. But one thing was clear–Vincent and I had a history. And it was anything but simple.
