Chapter 114 You Are My Wife
Ryan’s expression flickered with surprise–he clearly hadn’t expected my sudden request.
He studied me in silence, his deep eyes searching as if trying to read
through my thoughts.
I pressed my lips together slightly, keeping my voice steady, “I know we’re in Bellton right now, but I really want to go back to Harborbrook.”
I paused, my chest tightening with emotions, “I want to visit my
family’s graves.”
Ryan’s brows drew together slightly, his expression unreadable.
After a moment, he spoke slowly, his tone gentle but firm, “Gabby, we
can’t go to Harborbrook for now.”
“Oracle Attorneys‘ Bellton branch is dealing with some complicated issues, and I need to handle them personally. Once things are settled,
I’ll take you there, I promise.”
His reasoning made sense, but disappointment still crept in.
And yet, the way he looked at me–his eyes so sincere, his voice so
patient–I couldn’t bring myself to argue.
I nodded lightly and murmured, “Alright–It’s just that I’ve been thinking
about my grandma a lot lately.”

As soon as I mentioned her, a wave of sadness surged through me, making my voice catch. “Even though she’s gone, I still want to visit
her grave. There are things I need to say to her. Even if she can’t hear
me–I still have to go.”
While saying this, tears burned at the corners of my eyes.
Grandma had been the most important person in my life, yet I couldn’t even remember what had happened before she passed away.
Ryan simply pulled me into his embrace, his hand moving in slow,
soothing strokes down my back.
He murmured, his voice soft, reassuring, “Gabby, wherever you want to
go, I’ll go with you.”
Warmth spread through me.
This man–He always managed to make the simplest words feel like
the most strongest promises.
I tilted my head back to look at him, my vision slightly blurred by tears.
My voice hoarse. “Why are you so good to me?”
He chuckled softly, tapping my nose with his finger in a playful
gesture, his tone filled with indulgence. “You’re my wife. If I don’t take
care of you, who else would I take care of?”
Heat rushed to my cheeks.
Before I could say anything, Ryan’s phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen, his expression shifting slightly, as if
hesitating.
“Who is it? Why aren’t you answering?” I asked.
His lips parted like he wanted to say something, but he didn’t. The
phone kept ringing. Finally, he frowned before turning to me, “Wait
here.”
With that, he stepped toward the window before answering the call.
I sat quietly, but my attention stayed locked on him, and my ears
straining to pick up anything.
A deep male voice rumbled from the other end of the line.
“-Uncle Ryan.”
I froze for a moment. Then, I faintly heard my name-“Gabby“–
mentioned in the conversation.
A chill ran down my spine. My body tensed instantly. My gut told me
that the man on the phone was anything but ordinary.
‘Who was he? Why did he mention me? And why did Ryan’s expression
seem so strange?‘
My mind swirled with questions until Ryan ended the call and turned
back to me.
Feigning nonchalance, I asked, “Did something happen?”

Ryan looked at me deeply, his voice calm and gentle. “It’s nothing. A
few days ago, my father had a heart attack and was hospitalized. That
was my family letting me know he’s doing better.”
I blinked, my instincts telling me he wasn’t being entirely truthful.
But his expression gave nothing away, leaving no cracks for me to
latch onto.
I tried again, “Should we visit him?”
Ryan shook his head without hesitation, “You’re still recovering. Once
you’re better, we’ll go.”
I didn’t argue.
But the doubts in my heart only deepened.
After a pause, I spoke again, my voice softer, “I’ve been cooped up
here too long. I’d like to go out and get some fresh air.”
Ryan set his phone down and looked at me. His tone gentle, but there
was no room for negotiation, “Once Dr. Lawson confirms you’re fully
recovered, I’ll take you to the city for a walk.”
Disappointment settled in my chest, but I knew he was only looking
out for me, I let out a quiet sigh and nodded, “Alright.”
Just as he was turning toward his desk to continue his paperwork,
something in me snapped.
“Ryan.”

He stopped, turning back to me, “Hmm?”
I met his gaze.

And Finally, I asked the question that had been gnawing at me from
the moment I overheard that call, “The person who just called you–do
I know him? What is my relationship with him?”
