Ryan’s embrace was warm and steady. He gently patted my back, comforting me little by little.
His deep, soothing voice broke the silence, “Gabby, I know exactly how
you’re feeling right now.”
He paused, then let out a soft sigh, “Honestly, I wanted to keep this
from you to protect you from the truth. But sooner or later, you were
going to find out.”
“Life, death, sickness–none of us can escape them.” His hand moved
slowly across my back, his touch steady and reassuring. “But no
matter what happens, no matter how things change in the future, I’ll
always be by your side. Unless death takes me away from you.”
My heart clenched. I looked up at him, my vision blurred with tears,
overwhelmed by his words.
His gaze was warm yet unwavering, filled with quiet determination.
Then, Ryan lowered his head and softly kissed the corner of my eye,
gently kissing away my tears with his lips.
“Don’t cry.”
My heart lurched.
He was so good to me–it was impossible not to be moved.

Ryan’s voice remained gentle as he continued, “Gabby, don’t be sad anymore. Your grandma lived a full life, and she was deeply loved by you. She had no regrets.”
He hesitated for a moment, his eyes sincere, “If she could see you
happy, she would be at peace.”
Happy-?
I froze.
From an outsider’s perspective, being adored by a man like Ryan should be the kind of happiness every woman dreams of–right?
That night, Ryan stayed with me, talking to me, soothing my emotions
with his warmth. He didn’t leave until my eyelids grew heavy. As he tucked me in, he whispered, “Goodnight, Gabby.”
“Goodnight,” I murmured sleepily.
I knew that as husband and wife, we should be sharing a bed, but I still
wasn’t fully ready to accept the reality of our marriage. I needed time.
Thankfully, he never pressured me. His patience, his kindness made it
easy to be around him.
Maybe we really had been in love once.
That night, I drifted into a deep, hazy sleep.
I think I had a dream.

In the dream, I was surrounded by endless darkness, lost in a vast, blurry space. Somewhere in the distance, a man called my name.
“Gabby-”
His voice was low and urgent, as if he were desperately searching for
- me.
I hesitated, then instinctively asked, “Who are you?”
But he didn’t answer. He just stood there, his figure shrouded in darkness. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t see his face.
And yet, I had a strange feeling-
He wasn’t Ryan.
But if not him, then who else could it be?
I strained my eyes to see him, desperate to uncover his face. But the darkness never lifted. His feature remained just out of reach.
“Who are you?” I screamed, my voice echoing through the void.
Then, in an instant, I jolted awake, drenched in cold sweat.
My chest heaved, my mind spinning from the dream.
‘That man–who was he?‘
I rubbed my temples, trying to recall the dream, but the image only slipped further away, as if someone were erasing them from my

Then suddenly, a thought struck me–something Ryan had asked
before.
“Do you remember Vincent Hudson?”
“Vincent Hudson-” I murmured the name, and the moment I did, a
sharp, searing pain shot through my chest.
I clutched my forehead, my breathing ragged. The pain was so
intense, it felt like my skull was splitting open.
“Ah-!”
‘What have I forgotten?‘
I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to stay calm and think.
Ryan–he was hiding something.
Yes, he had been nothing but kind to me. He never made me feel
unsafe. Yet deep down, I knew there were things he didn’t want me to
remember.
Why did he avoid talking about Vincent Hudson?
Why did his expression shift every time I mentioned our marriage
certificate?
He was keeping secrets. I was sure of it.

And the more I thought about it, the stronger my suspicion grew.
I couldn’t just sit back and accept everything blindly anymore.
I had to uncover the truth–no matter what it took!
