I frowned at him. “What is it?”

Eric hesitated, glancing at Gabby lying on the bed. For a moment, it
seemed like he wasn’t sure whether to speak. But then, he finally said
- it.
“I just completed Ms. May’s medical examination–and I found out
she’s pregnant.”
“What did you say?” My whole body stiffened.
Eric repeated, “Ms. May is pregnant.”
The air in the room seemed to freeze. My mind went completely blank.
She’s pregnant?
She’s carrying Vincent’s child?
A sharp jolt ran through me, leaving me frozen in place. It took me a
few seconds to find my voice.
“The baby–is it okay?”
Eric sighed. “She’s lucky you pulled her out of the water when you did. If she had been in there any longer, she would have lost the baby for sure. But even so, her body is extremely weak. She’s going to need a
lot of rest and careful monitoring.”

My throat felt dry. “How far along is she?”
“Around two months,” Eric replied, then started listing all the
precautions she’d need to take for her recovery.
But I barely heard him.
My mind was buzzing–static, noise, fragments of thoughts crashing
into each other. I couldn’t process anything.
Instinctively, I asked, “When will Gabby wake up?”
“At the earliest, tomorrow.”
I nodded absentmindedly, signaling for him to leave.
The door clicked shut behind him and I exhaled slowly, my gaze
drifting back to Gabby.
She was still so pale. Her long lashes trembling slightly–like she was
caught in some dream she couldn’t escape.
She’s pregnant.
With Vincent’s child.
A wave of frustration surged in my chest. I ran a hand over my face,
trying to push it down.
But then–out of nowhere–an image flashed through my mind.
A dimly lit lounge at the gala.

The heavy scent of alcohol in the air.
The sound of ragged breaths.
Entangled shadows.
I sucked in a sharp breath, my eyes snapping open.

My pulse pounded in my ears. My mind raced, trying to piece it
together.
Two months.
If I counted back–the timing lined up.
If the baby was from that night—
Then this child-
My hands trembled. My breath came quicker. My blood turned to ice.
No. It couldn’t be.
There was only that one night. Just that one mistake.
I shut my eyes, taking a slow, deep breath, forcing my thoughts into silence. When I opened them again, every emotion had been buried deep inside.

Reaching forward, I gently pulled the blanket up over her chest, tucking
her in.
Then, in a quiet voice, I murmured,
“Good night, Gabby.”

I had a long, long dream.
In it, I think I fell in love with someone.
But his eyes, his voice, his warmth–all of it was blurry. No matter how
hard I tried, I couldn’t see his face clearly. The dream kept shifting,
slipping through my fingers like mist.
I reached out, desperate to hold onto him, but every time, he vanished. A crushing wave of loss and sorrow wrapped around me, so intense it
felt like my heart was being torn apart.
The pain was unbearable, sinking deep into my bones, making it hard
to breathe.
I woke up with a jolt.
A strange ceiling came into view, and the faint scent of wood lingered
in the air.
Where–am I?

I tried to move, but the moment I did, a sharp pain stabbed through my
head–like needles piercing straight into my skull.
I winced, pressing my fingers against my temples, struggling to
remember.
But my mind was completely blank.
How did I get here?
A wave of unease curled in my chest. I clutched the blanket tightly, my gaze darting around the unfamiliar room.
Just as panic started to creep in, a sudden knock sounded at the door.
“Gabby, are you awake?”
My body tensed instantly. My voice came out wary. “Who’s there?”
A brief silence. Then, a deep male voice answered.
“Gabby, what’s wrong? It’s me, Ryan.”
I froze.
Ryan?
