I slumped down, pressing my hands to my face, my voice hoarse.
“I don’t even know exactly what happened.”

I forced myself to piece together the events of the day, trying to make
sense of the chaos in my mind. Taking a deep breath, I recounted everything from the beginning.
“This morning, I got an anonymous message–along with two photos. In them, Gabby and Claire were both tied up.”
Ryan’s expression darkened, his gaze turning ice–cold.
“The kidnappers demanded a million dollars for their release. And they were clear–I had to come alone.” A shiver ran down my spine as I recalled their exact words. “I didn’t waste a second. I grabbed the money and rushed to the location they sent me. But when I got there- the only one waiting was a masked man.”
My throat tightened, my breathing uneven, “He forced me to choose. I
could only save one of them.”
I squeezed my eyes shut. “Claire is pregnant–so I saved her.”
The next second, Ryan’s fist slammed into my face. The force sent me
staggering backward, the sharp taste of blood instantly flooding my
mouth.
But I didn’t fight back. Because, deep down, I wanted to hit myself too.

“You worthless piece of shit!” Ryan’s voice thundered, raw with fury.
“You couldn’t even protect your own wife!?”
He swung again–this time harder.
I hit the sand with a heavy thud, the impact rattling through my bones.
But all I did was laugh, bitter and broken.
“Yeah. I’m nothing but a failure.”
I dug my fingers into my hair, the sheer weight of regret crushing me.
“I’m a coward! A goddamn coward!” I roared, my voice cracking as
tears blurred my vision.
Driven by self–hatred, I slapped myself–again and again. My ears rang
from the blows, but the pain was nothing compared to the torment
ripping me apart inside.
None of it mattered.
Gabby was gone.
No amount of regret could bring her back.
Ryan stared down at me, his gaze colder than the ocean breeze–like
he was looking at something pitiful.
“Vincent,” he said, his voice razor–sharp, “you’ll regret this decision for
the rest of your life.”

Then he turned and walked away, leading the rescue team without a
second glance.
He was gone.
Time passed, but I just sat there–hollow and broken, staring blankly at
the endless waves.
I couldn’t accept it. I refused to believe Gabby was dead.
Like a madman, I threw myself back into the water, ignoring the freezing water slicing against my skin. I swam with everything I had, blindly searching, screaming her name until my throat was raw.
But I found nothing.
Nothing.
‘Had I really condemned her to death with my own hands?‘
The waves crashed into me, merciless and indifferent. My strength drained fast, exhaustion dragging me down like iron chains. Finally, I had no choice but to drag myself back to shore.
Collapsing onto the cold, wet sand, I shattered.
Sobbing. Gasping. Drowning in memories of her–memories that only
made the pain worse.
Drowning in regret.

After leaving the beach, I drove through the night, heading straight for
my private villa in Bellton.
I strode toward the master bedroom, pushed open the door to find the figure lying on the bed.
Gabrielle.
She wasn’t dead.
She was right here, in my bed.
I stood there in silence, watching her, emotions twisting inside me.
She was still unconscious, her face was pale, lips drained of color, but
her breathing was steady. That was all that mattered.
The truth was, I had lied to Vincent.
I had found Gabby hours ago.
When I pulled her from the water, she was barely conscious, her body
limp from exhaustion. She had only passed out from water inhalation
-her life was never truly in danger.
I had her brought here to Bellton immediately, placed under medical
care, monitored closely. But I never told Vincent.
Instead, I let him believe she had been swallowed by the sea.

And I refused to let her be dragged back into his world of selfishness
and failure.
I sat on the edge of the bed, brushing my fingers lightly against her cheek, feeling the warmth of her skin.
Softly, I murmured, “Gabby–I want you to start over.”
A new life.
One without Vincent.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
I turned as my private doctor, Eric, stepped inside, his expression grim.
“Mr. Hudson,” he said, his voice low and serious. “There’s something
