Chapter 6
That evening, after dinner, Celia was about to head to her bedroom to rest when there was a noise at the door.
Thalia, holding Louie’s arm, walked in, followed by several maids carrying luggage.
Louie directed the maids to move the luggage to the guest room and then looked at Celia.
“Thalia just returned to the country and couldn’t find a place to rent. I’ve asked her to stay here for a few days.”
Thalia raised an eyebrow. “I’m just staying a few days. You don’t mind, do you, Mrs. Morris?”
Celia remained calm. “I don’t mind. Miss Collins, you’re free to stay as long as you want.”
She didn’t care–it was only three days before she’d leave.
Louie looked surprised. “You’re not angry?”
Celia shook her head. “I’m leaving soon anyway.”
Louie froze. “What do you mean?”
Celia waved her hand. “Nothing, just rambling.”
Louie sensed something was off with Celia and was about to ask more, but Thalia spoke up first.
“Louie, didn’t you say you’d take Jenna to the amusement park?”
Her tone and actions made it clear she had already taken the position of the lady of the house.
Louie was completely captivated. “Right, let’s go pick up Jenna now.”

He looked up at Celia and mouthed something but ultimately said nothing.
Celia, though, was very understanding. “Go ahead, just think of it as welcoming Jenna home early.”
Thalia, linking her arm through Louie’s again, said, “Yes, like a family of three.”

Celia could see her smugness but only smiled politely and turned to leave.
After dinner, the sky had darkened.
As Celia was about to fall asleep, she heard voices from outside the door.
It was Thalia, with a tone of playful whining. “Louie, just sleep with me for one night.”
Louie’s voice was gentle but firm, “Thalia, Celia is my legal wife. This is not right.”
“I’m the one on the marriage certificate. She’s just an imitation. It makes sense for you to sleep with me,” Thalia retorted.
Celia’s fingers curled slightly as she slowed her breathing.
After a long silence, Louie sighed. “You’re Jenna’s mother. Just remember, I won’t treat you unfairly.”
Thalia quietly sniffled. “Then can you promise me that while I’m staying here, you won’t touch her?”
Louie muttered a soft “Mm.”
Soon, the sound of a door opening came from the next bedroom.
Celia slowly opened her eyes and smiled silently.
Three people, three rooms, each with their own secrets.
The next morning, when Celia went downstairs, Louie and Thalia were already having breakfast.
“I saw you were sleeping so well, so I didn’t have Louie wake you up,” Thalia said with clear implication, as if she were the lady of the house and Celia was just a guest.
Louie didn’t correct her.
Celia didn’t bother to respond, sat down and started her breakfast.
Thalia stood up and served a bowl of sweet soup, handing it to Celia. “I made it myself. Try it.”
Celia immediately spotted the chestnuts at the bottom of the bowl.
She had been allergic to chestnuts since childhood, and even a single bite could be fatal.

Celia pushed the bowl away. “Sorry, I don’t eat chestnuts.”
Thalia immediately became aggrieved, squeezing out a few tears and looking at Louie.
“I’ll just leave, even if I have to sleep on the streets, it’s better than staying here and being disliked.”
She stood up, ready to pack her things.
Louie quickly grabbed her, coaxing her gently.
He then turned to scold Celia. “Celia, come on, drink it. Thalia made this early in the morning.”
Celia looked at him in disbelief. “You know I’m allergic to chestnuts, and yet you expect me to care about her efforts? Are you joking with my life?”
