Chapter 10 Why Did He Risk His Life For Me?
“Come in,” a somewhat familiar voice called from inside.
I stepped in and first glanced at the bed where Ryan lay, with his eyes closed.
Then I saw Henry Hudson–Vincent’s grandfather and Ryan’s father.
Vincent’s father, Daniel Hudson–Ryan’s older brother, was also there.
Ryan was Henry’s youngest child, almost twenty years younger than Daniel.

“Grandpa Henry, Father,” I greeted them. Despite planning to divorce Vincent, Henry had always treated me kindly, so I needed to show respect to my elders.
“Gabby, what brings you here?” Henry asked surprisingly, “Here to see Ryan? Where’s Vincent? Isn’t he with you?”
“Vincent had some work stuff to take care of,” I replied casually, glancing at Ryan.
His eyes were closed, his face pale, but his handsome features remained unchanged.
“I heard you were injured too. How are you?” Henry asked kindly.
His lack of blame surprised me. After all, Ryan was lying here because he saved me. I’d expected Henry to be upset or question our relationship…
But he didn’t seem bothered at all.
Daniel, on the other hand, only gave me a quick look, saying nothing.
My father–in–law had always been distant with me, and I’d learned to deal with it.
“I’m fine, Grandpa,” I shook my head. “Just a minor injury on my left arm. It’s already bandaged. How’s Uncle Ryan?”
Henry sighed, “The bullet hit his shoulder, close to his heart. Luckily, it missed vital areas, but he lost a lot of blood. He’s out of danger now, though. Don’t worry, Gabby.”
I stood there, stunned.
Ryan and I barely had any connection, yet he almost lost his life for saving me?
The thought of what could’ve happened if that bullet hit his heart–I couldn’t bear it.
“Father, don’t you think this is strange?” Daniel, who had been quiet until now, gave me a strange look, “Ryan risking his life to save Gabrielle, they-”
“Enough,” Henry cut him off. “Ryan is a Hudson, and Gabby is Vincent’s wife–She’s family. What’s wrong with Ryan saving a family member?”
Daniel fell silent.
But my mind was still racing with questions.
Suddenly, Ryan’s eyelids flickered, “I think he’s waking up!” I said, surprised and relieved.
I had so many questions for him.

Ryan slowly opened his eyes, frowning as he scanned the room, “Dad? Daniel? you’re both here? Gabby, you too?”
“Ryan, you scared the life out of me!” Henry grabbed his hand. “What would this old man do if something happened to you?”
I felt deeply moved. Grandpa had always been fond of Ryan, treating him like his most precious treasure. His late grandmother had adored him too.
How could his parents not love him? He was extraordinary.
Ryan’s voice was raspy. But after talking with Henry for a while, he looked at me and said, “I need to talk to her alone.”
“Alright,” Henry agreed quickly.
Daniel grumbled as he left, “What’s so important that it has to be private?”
Once they were gone, Ryan looked at me, giving a weak smile, “Gabrielle, you’ve got questions, don’t you?”
I hadn’t expected him to read me so well. I quickly nodded, then hesitated before asking softly, “Why d id you risk your life to save me?”
I desperately needed to understand.
