Chapter 61 She’s Pregnant With My Husband’s Baby
I stumbled, struggling to keep my composure. Just then, the hospital
room door swung open.
Inside, Claire was casually leaning against the hospital bed, looking
perfectly fine. How could this be an emergency?
“Oh, so you finally decided to show up!” Mom snapped the moment
when she saw me, her face darkening, “I texted and called you a
hundred times, and you ignored me. What are you trying to do-
disown your own mother?”
“Mom, didn’t you say something happened to Claire? She looks fine to
me,” I let out a bitter laugh, motioning toward Claire, “Why’d you drag
me here this late just to mess with me?”
“You were eavesdropping on my conversation with Mom?” Claire’s
expression tightened.
“I overheard, yeah. Otherwise, how else would I know what you two
say about me behind my back?” I turned to Mom, who looked away,
guilt written all over her face, “Mom, am I even your real daughter? If I
am, why do you treat me like this? And If I’m not–what’s the truth?”
“There we go again with your crazy talk!” Mom muttered, avoiding my
eyes, looking down, “You and Claire are both my daughters. How could
that be fake? What are you always overthinking about?”
“Overthinking?” My voice cracked as bitterness tightened my throat,

“You’ve always favored Claire. Am I supposed to ignore that and
pretend it’s all in my head?”
“Enough!” Mom snapped, then softened her tone as if that would
erase the sting, “Since you’re here now. Sit down and stop making a
fuss. You misheard earlier–your sister and I were just chatting. Don’t
take it to heart.”
“Oh really? Claire’s pregnant, right? Did I mishear that too?” My sharp tone cut through the room, and I watched their expressions shift.
Claire was the first to speak, a smug grin curling her lips as she
touched her stomach, “Since you’ve already heard, no point hiding it.‘

“Gabrielle, I’m pregnant, and it’s Vincent’s baby.” Her words carried an edge of triumph that made my stomach churn.
Even though I’d been bracing myself, hearing her say it still hit me like
a punch to the gut.
I staggered, vision blurring, barely staying upright as I glared at her,
“So what? Are you here to rub it in my face?”
“She’s your sister! How could you think of her that way?” Mom snapped, glaring at me. “Claire’s pregnant–don’t upset her.”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
This was the family I once cherished. My sister had been sleeping
with my husband, and instead of condemning her, Mom stood by her
side unconditionally. It was beyond ridiculous.

“Yeah, Claire’s pregnant–with my husband’s baby. What a catch, huh? Sleeping with her brother–in–law-” My voice shook with rage.
“Shut your mouth!” Mom shouted, grabbing my wrist roughly, “How dare you talk about your sister like that! Gabrielle, you’ve gone too far!”
I stared at her, tears blurring my vision, “So I’m not really your
daughter, am I? No real mother would pick favorites like this?”
“Stop talking nonsense!” Mom snapped, her face red with fury, “Why
did I even have to give birth to such a troublemaker!”
“Yeah, maybe you shouldn’t have had me.” I pulled my wrist from her
grip, forcing a bitter smile. “Since your precious daughter is fine, I’ll
leave.”
I couldn’t stay in that suffocating room a second longer. Just thinking
about Mom’s blatant favoritism and how Vincent had rushed to
Claire’s side during the shooting made my chest ache.
“Stop right there!” Mom blocked my way. “We called you here for a
reason. There’s something important you need to do.”
“Claire, bring those papers,” she said, signaling to Claire.
“Which papers?” My heart sank, a cold dread settling in.
