How did Vincent suddenly show up?

I was puzzled, but since I needed his signature on the divorce papers anyway, his timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
I quickly opened the door, and found Vincent’s handsome face staring
back at me.
“Gabby, I’m here to apologize,” Vincent spoke first, stepping forward and grabbing my hand. “Grandpa lectured me today, and after really thinking it over, I realize I went too far.”
He continued, “The whole thing with Claire is definitely over. But after not seeing her for so many years, and having once loved her so deeply, I couldn’t just be totally indifferent. When she threatened suicide, knowing how her bad depression was, I couldn’t just ignore
her life or death,”
He squeezed my hand, looking at me seriously, “I’m sorry I handled everything so badly and hurt you. Gabby, I really know I was wrong. I understand now–you’re my wife–you’re the one I should care about! And I shouldn’t have ever suspected anything between you and Uncle Ryan. I was just jealous seeing you two getting close!”
I stood there in shock for a long time, almost wondering if I was hearing things. ‘Was Vincent actually… apologizing? Hell must’ve
frozen over!‘

He’d been dodging this issue, blaming me and Ryan, when all along, he was the one who still hung up on Claire.
To think that someone as proud as Vincent could actually humble himself and admit his mistakes?
“Vincent, it’s too late,” I shook my head sadly, my voice trembling.
“Too late.”
If Grandma hadn’t died so tragically, if he’d cut ties with Claire earlier,
maybe we’d have had a chance-
But now, I could never love him unconditionally like before.
“Why? Gabby, we’ve got years of history–and you’re really insisting on
divorce over this? Over these small things?” Vincent shouted, his eyes
red with frustration.
“Small things?” I laughed bitterly, unable to stop the sarcasm. “Like
being late to our wedding, showing up with Claire, shocking Grandma
into coughing blood? You call that small? During the shooting, you
protected Claire first and let bullets fly at me! Small things?”
I’d hoped his apology meant he finally understood the damage he’d done, but nope–he was still the same. If I agreed to stay, I’d just be
signing up for more heartbreak.
Without hesitation, I grabbed the divorce papers and handed them to
him, “Just sign these and leave. You’re not welcome here.”
Vincent took the papers, stared at them for a few seconds, then

suddenly roared like a wild animal, “Gabrielle, you already had divorce papers ready!”
“Yes,” I looked at him coldly, trying to steady myself. “Sign them. Once you sign, we can get this over quickly and part ways on decent terms. The agreement’s clear–I don’t want your money, just custody of Toby.”
I didn’t care about the property division. I just wanted this to end quickly, and to move on.
“Gabrielle, so you’ve been acting all this time in front of Grandpa? You were already set on divorce! Even if I begged you a hundred times, you’d still be like this, wouldn’t you?” Vincent screamed, his voice cracking with anger.
“Yes,” I answered, my tone flat.
Vincent exploded in rage, tearing at the divorce papers like a madman.
He shredded the agreement into pieces and threw them in the air, the scraps raining down around us like confetti.
