I looked at Henry’s weathered face and white hair, feeling like my
throat was blocked with cotton. Seeing the glimmer in his eyes, a
wave of guilt and sadness swept over me.
Grandpa’s health wasn’t great, and he was getting older. If I went
through with divorcing Vincent now, would it be too much for him to
handle?
Just then, I caught Vincent desperately trying to catch my eye, clearly
afraid I’d say something wrong.
After a moment of thought, I shook my head and said, “Grandpa,
you’re overthinking. A lot’s been going on lately–I just need some time
to myself to process it all.”
“Right,” Henry sighed. “Your grandma passed away, Toby’s missing, you got hurt, and that idiot Vincent keeps causing you trouble. Don’t worry, Gabby. I’ve got your back! I’ll teach Vincent a lesson–I’ll make sure he stays away from other women and doesn’t upset you
anymore.”
“Thanks, Grandpa,” I forced a weak smile.
Grandpa was so good to me, but I just couldn’t meet his expectations.
He gave me a few more reminders about taking care of myself before letting me leave.

As I passed by Ryan, our eyes met, and his thin lips quirked into a
slight smile. I quickly looked away. One more glance and I’d start
thinking about that strange dream again, and his words, “I do admire
Gabrielle“…
I silently scolded myself. I absolutely couldn’t develop any
inappropriate feelings for Ryan! He was Vincent’s uncle, my elder, and
my friend–nothing more.
As for that dream, it was just a fluke. Better to forget it.
At the door, I suddenly heard Henry’s voice. “Ryan, we all know you see
Gabby as family. Vincent was too rash today. But honestly, you should
think about finding a girlfriend–you’re already thirty–three.”
“Wasn’t Ryan engaged to that Miller heiress?” Daniel’s voice chimed
- in. “He seemed to really like Miss Miller back then–What happened?”
I froze.
Ryan had been engaged to Miss Miller? Was it the Miller family from
Bellton? While the Hudsons were the leading family in Harborbrook,
the Millers held the title of Bellton’s wealthiest.
Ryan and the Miller heiress would’ve made a perfect couple. ‘Had she
been the one he cared about?‘
I smiled wryly. What had I been thinking, secretly wondering if Ryan
might feel something for me? Someone as ordinary as me couldn’t
possibly catch the attention of someone like him.

Still, an inexplicable feeling stirred in my chest.

I pushed down, forcing myself to focus as I made my way back to my
apartment.
Just then, my lawyer called to say he’d reviewed the divorce papers and everything was in order.
Soon, the received agreement arrived. I carefully went through it
several times, feeling dazed.
Finally, I bit my lip, picked up a pen, and signed my name at the
bottom.
My hand shook as I signed, and tears fell, nearly staining the papers.
I’d rehearsed this moment in my mind a thousand times, but when it
actually came, I couldn’t stop the feelings of sadness and regret.
After all, I’d spent my whole youth loving Vincent–he had been my
everything to me. But now…
I wiped my tears away and composed myself, planning to call Vincent
to get his signature.
But just as I was about to pick up the phone, someone knocked on the door. “Gabby, open up!”
It was Vincent’s voice.
