I was too shocked to speak.

How could someone who was fine yesterday be gone today? This
couldn’t be just a coincidence!
I was even more convinced now that the mastermind had made their
move.
Brandon’s body was wheeled out, covered by a white sheet.
“Why would he suddenly take his own life?” I tried to pull myself
together, taking a deep breath.
“Before he was put in detention, we thoroughly checked him to make
sure he didn’t have anything dangerouss. He shouldn’t have had any
way to hurt himself. But this morning, after breakfast, we found him
collapsed, foam at his mouth,” a young officer explained. “Preliminary
findings suggest poisoning. We’ll need to do an autopsy.”
I rubbed my temples. ‘Poisoning? More likely someone poisoned him!‘
“Gabby, Brandon tried to hurt you. He got what was coming to him,”
Vincent said, trying to comfort me. “You shouldn’t feel bad about it.”
“I’m not feeling sorry for a criminal, but-” I sighed. “With him dead, we’ve lost our only lead on Toby.”
“What do you mean?” Vincent frowned.

I didn’t answer right away. Instead, I silently pulled out the prepared
documents from my bag and handed them to the officer. “Officer,
these documents, found by my friend, prove that Brandon, the shooter,
is the same man who kidnapped my son.”
The officer reviewed the materials carefully and thanked me, “If these documents are legit, they’ll be really helpful. Thanks, Mrs. Hudson.
We’ll verify everything.”
“But Brandon’s dead now. Even if we prove he kidnapped my son–we
can’t question a dead man,” I lowered my head, feeling defeated. “The
trail ends here.”
I gathered my courage and pushed forward with my theory, “Officer, I
think Brandon was murdered! He had no reason to go after me–why
would he kidnap my son and try to kill me? He must have been
following someone else’s orders. And in prison, with no way to harm
himself, he suddenly dies? The mastermind probably had someone
poison him to shut him up.”
“Mrs. Hudson, I understand your concerns, but these are just theories,
no proof yet. We’ll investigate thoroughly and keep you updated,” the officer replied.
The police soon left, and Brandon’s body was taken for an autopsy.
I stood in the hospital hallway, feeling lost. ‘With Brandon dead, what
was I supposed to do next?‘
“Gabby, who gave you those documents?” Vincent’s voice interrupted,

I turned to face him. His eyes were cold, piercing like he was trying to
see straight through me.
“That’s none of your business,” I replied sharply. “Thanks for the ride,
but I don’t owe answer.”
“It was Ryan, wasn’t it?” He smirked, a dangerous smile. “Who else
could get that kind of info?”
I pressed my lips together, not confirming or denying
It was clear Vincent had already made up his mind.
I turned to leave, wanting to avoid any drama, but he grabbed my arm and shoved me against the cold wall.
“What are you doing?” I frowned, immediately trying to break free.
He dragged me forcefully toward a nearby stairwell.
Despite my resistance, I couldn’t overpower him–he was a solid, built
guy.
Once we were alone, he shoved me hard, gripping my shoulders as he
tried to tear at my clothes.
“Vincent!” I snapped, fury building. I slapped him hard across the face, “What the hell is wrong with you?”
