It was Vincent.

His eyes were bloodshot, dark circles under them, like he hadn’t slept all night.
I froze for a moment. Vincent was sitting on the ground, his hair
disheveled, with several stains on his clothes.
Vincent was usually always perfectly put together–I’d never seen him
look this much of a mess before.
“Did you sit here all night?” I asked, surprised.
“I was waiting for you,” Vincent’s voice was hoarse, barely above a
whisper. “Come back with me.”
He spoke with that commanding tone of his.
Any sympathy I’d felt for him disappeared in an instant.
“I told you, I won’t go with you. If bringing me back is just a favor for
Grandpa, don’t worry, I’ll explain things to him myself.” I checked my
watch. “I’ve got something important to handle. You do what you
want.”
“What happened?” Vincent stood up.
“Brandon committed suicide,” I said, my tone serious. “I need to get to
the police station.”

“What? How did this happen?” Vincent looked shocked. “Let me go
with you!”
I didn’t respond, just headed for my car.
As we drove off, I glanced in the rearview mirror–Vincent’s car was
trailing us.
I turned away without a word.
He was the man I’d loved for years. Now he was here, trying to reconcile, waiting all night for me–if I said it didn’t affect me, I’d be
lying.
But I quickly shut those feelings down.
There was no going back. I wasn’t going to fight Claire for Vincent. I knew one thing for sure, no matter who Vincent chose now, when Claire threatened suicide, he’d drop everything and run to her.
At the police station, I’d barely stepped out of the car when Vincent pulled up.
There was an ambulance parked outside the station, giving me a bad
feeling.
I walked in, Vincent following. I purposely avoided looking at him.
Inside, I saw medical staff wheeling out a stretcher. On it was a
deathly pale figure!
‘Was that–Brandon?‘ My heart sank.

Brandon couldn’t die now!
He had Toby–only if Brandon was alive could I find out what
happened to him!

Brandon was loaded into the ambulance, which quickly drove off
following a police car.
“Gabby, should we follow the ambulance?” Vincent asked urgently.
“Yes,” I nodded.
With no other choice, I got into Vincent’s car. He followed the ambulance and police car to the hospital.
We ended up at the emergency room, where several officers were pleading with the doctors to save Brandon.
‘Why would he try to kill himself now, when his motives were still
unclear?‘
I bit my lip, a bold thought suddenly forming in my mind.

Brandon might not have committed suicide! He’d been silenced–And the person who wanted him dead could be the real mastermind.
Brandon had kidnapped Toby and tried to kill me at the wedding, he must’ve been following someone’s orders! Now that he was caught, the person behind it all wanted to kill him before he could talk.
My thoughts were a mess. Vincent went to speak with the police and
came back after a while.
“Brandon was in custody with guards watching him. How the hell did he manage to commit suicide?” Vincent sounded just as confused.
I was no less puzzled.
I anxiously watched the emergency room light. It felt like forever
before the door finally opened.
The doctor came out, shaking his head at us, “We couldn’t save him.”
I staggered, my vision going dark for a moment, and had to lean against the wall to steady myself.
