Vincent’s voice was heavy, his eyes bloodshot, reeking of alcohol.

“Have you been drinking?” I frowned, pushing him away, “Don’t show
up here drunk! Where I go and what I do is none of your business
anymore.”
I hadn’t expected Vincent to find me here so quickly.
“Gabby, I never wanted things to end up like this-” Vincent held me
tight, refusing to let go.
“Did you even think about me when you were dating Claire?” I turned away as tears welled up in my eyes, “If you’d thought about me,
considered my feelings, even just a little-” My voice cracked, “Maybe
we wouldn’t be here right now.”
I couldn’t understand Vincent’s intentions. ‘Was he just drunk and
trying to put on an emotional show?‘
But the pain he caused me before was real. That pain wasn’t going
anywhere, and the scars on my heart wouldn’t just heal themselves.
“Gabby, please come back to me?” Vincent held my hand, his pleading
eyes bloodshot, tugging at my heartstrings.
I pulled away, squeezing my own hand tight. ‘Come on, Gabrielle, stay
strong! Don’t soften just because he’s being all emotional!‘
“Grandpa knows about our divorce now. He lost it tonight,” Vincent

frowned. “He said I lost you because I didn’t treat you right.”

“I messed up, Gab. I neglected your feelings, made you suffer a lot. If only-” his voice trailed off.
“There are no ‘if onlys‘,” I cut him off. “So, did Grandpa send you here
to find me?”
He married me because Grandpa forced him. Now, he’s trying to fix things because Grandpa forced him?
From the start, he never really chose me. The man I loved for so many
years never loved me back.
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
“Gabby, that’s not-” Vincent tried to explain.
“Vincent, I’ll talk to Grandpa myself. I’ll get him to accept the divorce,” I
wiped my eyes, not wanting to show any weakness in front of him.
“You don’t need to pretend you care if you don’t.”
“Stop drinking so much, your stomach can’t handle it,” I looked at him,
my concern slipping out. “Call Claire to pick you up. I’m going inside.”
Without giving him a chance to respond, I opened the door and
slammed it shut, just as he tried to follow me in.
I couldn’t waver. I had to stay strong.
Once the door was shut, I leaned against it, sliding down. I collapsed
on the floor, covering my mouth as the tears flowed.

‘Oh Vincent, you were the heartless one. You left me, so why are you
coming back now, confusing me all over again?‘
The door shook as Vincent banged on it, shouting something, but I
couldn’t summon the strength to listen, I didn’t want to.
That door between us felt like a thousand miles apart.
There’s no turning back, Vincent. We can never go back.

The next morning, I got up early, ready to take the evidence Ryan had gathered to the police station. It would help with the investigation.
Just as I was about to leave, my phone rang.
“Mrs. Hudson, the killer Brandon committed suicide last night!” It was someone from the police station.
“What?” I could barely get the words out, shocked.
I hung up and rushed to leave for the police station.
But as I opened the door, a large hand shot out, and grabbed my ankle.
I jumped back in fright, looked down, and met a pair of exhausted
eyes.
