This was one of the most prestigious law firms in the world! Only the
best of the best got in.
Could someone like me – who’d spent six years as a housewife – really
make it at a place like that?
“How will you know if you don’t try?” Ryan raised an eyebrow, “Don’t
worry, I’m always professional and I don’t play favorites. I’m just
saying you should interview at the firm – whether you get in depends
completely on your own abilities.”
“So, you’re offering me an interview?” My voice shook with excitement.
“Yes,” Ryan nodded.
“That’s amazing!” I was so excited I almost jumped out of my seat.
Just getting an interview opportunity from Ryan was huge! So many law grads would kill for a chance like this.
Of course, I’d make the most of it. He wasn’t offering me a job straight
up, just an interview – which felt like a much more honest shot.
“Thank you for this chance. I’ll give it my all!” I sincerely thanked him.
Even though I hadn’t worked in years, I’d kept up with my legal knowledge.
Oracle was a top firm, and honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d make it, but like

“After I get discharged, I’ll have someone reach out to you about the
interview time,” Ryan said.
“Thank you, Uncle Ryan, really thank you!” I kept expressing my gratitude.
This was the first time in ages I felt this excitement and joy – since Grandma passed away.
Actually, becoming a top lawyer had always been my biggest dream.
Now I was one step closer.
“No need for all the formalities, just call me by my name,” Ryan said
with a slight smile. “After all, you’re about to divorce. so I won’t be
your uncle anymore.”
“Then –” I paused and said, “Ryan?” I tested his name out.
For some reason, when I said it, my heart started pounding, and my
ears felt hot.
I’d never called him that before, and it felt a little strange at first.
I used to think of him as Vincent’s youngest uncle, but now it felt like
we were more like friends.
“From now on, just call me Gabby,” I smiled. “So, we’re friends now?”
“What do you think?” Ryan gave me a teasing look, his eyes narrowing
slightly.

“Of course we are!” I patted his shoulder. “You need to get better
soon.”
In my excitement, I forgot about his injured shoulder, and when I patted it, Ryan let out a sharp breath and his face went pale.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry! I forgot about your injury!” I panicked, feeling
terrible. “What should I do? Should I get a doctor?”
“No need, the wound’s almost healed,” Ryan waved me off, pointing to
a medical kit nearby. “Could you help me change the dressing?“,
“Me?” I hesitated, but since I’d accidentally hurt him, helping felt like
the right thing to do. “Okay, but if it hurts – I’m not as good as the
medical staff.”
I grabbed the medical kit, found the gauze and iodine, and got ready.
Ryan took off his shirt and sat on the bed.
We’re both adults, what haven’t we seen before?
But when I suddenly saw Ryan’s bare upper body, my face went hot
and my mind started wandering.
His body was perfect, with a toned chest and abs that were hard to
look away from.
I took a deep breath, telling myself this was just a dressing change –
nothing more.
I stepped forward to remove the bandage, but whether it was from
nervousness or something else, I tripped and fell right on top of him!
