Chapter 28 I Must Get Divorced
When I walked into Ryan’s hospital room, he was sitting on the bed, quietly flipping some documents. Henry and Daniel were nowhere to be seen; he was alone.
As he flipped through the files, his profile was still breathtaking.
Was he- I thought, working? Still working even while hospitalized?
They say men are most attractive when they’re working – honestly, it’s
true.
Suddenly, Sylvia’s words popped into my head. “Could it be that he likes you?”
I shivered, trying to reign in my wandering thoughts.
“You’re here?” Ryan glanced up, noticing me, and set the papers down,
“Take a seat.”
“Uncle Ryan,” I moved over, pulled out a chair, and sat beside his bed,
“What’s all this? Work stuff, or are you looking into Toby’s case?”
“Both,” he said, pulling out a few more papers and handing them to
me, “Check this out.”
I scanned the documents carefully, and after a beat, I jumped to my
feet, “I knew it! The guy who kidnapped Toby and the one who tried to
shoot me – they’re the same person!”

The files were about Brandon – the shooter I saw at the police station
today – and the masked man from the video I’d seen earlier.
It clicked, Brandon had to be the same guy who took Toby that day.
“Uncle Ryan, how did you find all this?” My voice betrayed how
impressed I was.
Vincent’s people had been investigating for days and hadn’t gotten
anywhere.
“Brandon’s wasn’t exactly a mastermind, so it wasn’t too hard to
trace,” Ryan said with a smile. “I’ve been investigating the masked guy,
and once I heared about the shooter’s arrest, I had my people pull
Brandon’s background.”
“Turns out the two profiles matched perfectly,” Ryan continued. “Now
that Brandon’s been caught, we can get Toby’s location from him, we
might find Toby!”
My eyes welled up with emotion, “Uncle Ryan, thank you so much!
Without you, I’d still be running around clueless, lost with no
direction!”
I looking at his handsome face so close to mine, and felt with a wave
of emotion. Without him, I might still be lost over Toby’s
disappearance, or even worse – dead from Brandon’s bullet- I
stammered.
Ryan had done so much for me, I couldn’t repay him.

“I’m just happys I could help,” Ryan said, handing me a tissue, “Here, wipe your eyes. Aren’t you a little old to be crying?”
I took the tissue and chuckled through my tears, “I’m just so
overwhelmed.”
“So, what’s next for you?”
“I’ll head to the police station tomorrow. Can I take these with me? I
want to submit them as evidence.”
“Of course,” Ryan agreed right away, “How are things with Vincent?”
“I’m drafting the divorce papers. Hopefully, he’ll sign them,” I said, a
pang in my chest as I mentioned Vincent, “I’m definitely moving
forward with this divorce.”
“If you need a lawyer, just ask,” Ryan said, his gaze off,. “Afterward, have you thought about working at a law firm?”
“I haven’t worked in years, I don’t know if any firm would hire me-” I felt
embarrassed saying it out loud.
“How about Oracle Attorneys?” he smiled, his eyes crinkling at the
edges.
I froze.
“Wait. are you serious?” I stammered, unsure if I’d heard him right.
Oracle Attorneys – that’s Ryan’s law firm, isn’t it?
