Chapter 22 Going For The Abortion
A chill ran through me, and cold sweat broke out on my back as the
thought crossed my mind.
God, I had been so excited about this baby, I paused, but now, how
I could I even think like that?
But I had to face the truth. If I kept this baby, the connection between
Vincent and me would only grow stronger, making divorce even
harder.
I ignored Vincent and pulled my suitcase out of the mansion, heading
out on my own.
In the garden, I saw my good friend Sylvia Taylor waving at me.
Before leaving the mansion, I’d contacted Sylvia to help me move.
She’d been busy with work and had just arrived.
Sylvia was my college roommate, and we’d stayed close. Now she
was a lawyer at a small firm.
“Honey, I’m so sorry, I was on a business trip,” Sylvia said as she came
over and hugged me, “You’ve been through so much lately – why didn’t
you tell me sooner? I should’ve been here for you.”
I hadn’t given Sylvia all the details, just a rough overview until today.
“It’s fine, work comes first,” I forced a smile. “I can handle this, though I could use your help moving.”

“No problem!” Sylvia winked and tossed her wavy hair over her
shoulder.

She was always gorgeous and cheerful, no matter what as going on.
“So you’re really divorcing Vincent?” Sylvia nudged me as we walked, “You were totally head over heels for him before – what happened?”
“It’s a long story – I’ll fill you later,” I sighed. “But yeah, divorce is happeneing now.”
“Divorce? Pfft, no big deal! I’ve got your back!” She patted her chest proudly, making me laugh, and warming my heart.
I thought I was all alone, but at least I still had friends who cared.
Sylvia had driven here and helped load my luggage into the trunk. As I was heading for the passenger seat, Vincent came running over, his
voice shaking, “Gabby, are you really leaving?”
I knew it wasn’t easy for someone as proud as Vincent to stop me.
But why should I stay just because he asked?
Even if I stayed, nothing would change.
I didn’t answer him, just pressed my lips together, my throat feeling
thick, “Vincent, when you went abroad early last month – was it really
for work?”
My question hit home – Vincent’s face turned pale.
I understood then – Claire hadn’t been lying. When Vincent went

Maybe he’d been cheating all along, and I was just too blind to see it.
“Syl, let’s go,” I said, buckling my seatbelt.
“Okay.” Sylvia slammed her foot on the gas, and the car roared to life.
I glanced back at Vincent one last time – he was standing there,
staring blankly in our direction.
This time, he didn’t chase after us.
“Where are we headed, Gabby?” Sylvia asked, her eyes on the road.
“Let’s go to my apartment,” I said, rubbing my forehead.
It was the only place I could go now – the one Grandpa Hudson had
bought for me. It was in my name, separate from Vincent’s and mine
shared assets.
Grandpa Hudson had always been good to me. If it weren’t for him, I
might not even have a place to stay right now.
As we drove, Sylvia finally couldn’t hold it in any longer.
I told her everything that had happened recently, leaving nothing out.
Sylvia was so furious, she slammed the foot on the gas, cursing Vincent and Claire’s entire family.
“So what’s your plan now? I can’t believe you’re pregnant and getting
divorced!” she blurted.
“Syl, I’ve decided not to keep the baby,” I said, touching my stomach as tears welled up, “Would you come with me to get an abortion in a few
days?”
