“Don’t forget, you’ve been a housewife for years! If you divorce me, how will you survive? You don’t even have a real job!” Vincent’s words cut deeper than I expected.
Sure, I used to have dreams. But for him, I gave it all up–no career, no independence.
“I can find work. I’ll be fine,” I said, my tone cold. “And even if I can’t make ends meet, I’d rather beg on the streets than come crawling back to you.”
“You-” Vincent looked hurt. “We were married. why does it have to end like this?”
“You chose Claire over me, time and time again–you even showed up late to our wedding! You and Claire are the reason Grandma died! Don’t act like you’ve forgotten–I can’t let this go, I can’t forgive you, Vincent! The best thing for us is never seeing each other again.” I pressed my lips together. “It’s over.”
With that, I brushed past him, suitcase in hand, walking away with as much dignity as I could master.
But Vincent chased after me, his voice urgent, “What about Toby? We still haven’t found our son yet!”
“I’ll find Toby on my own. I don’t want anything from you–not your money, nothing. But Toby will be mine when I find him.” I gave him a calm, determined look.
Just then, Liz rushed up, grabbing my arm, “Ma’am, what are you doing? Couples fight, sure, but divorce? Isn’t that a bit too much? I’ve seen it all, ma’am,” Liz continued, her voice soft. “I can tell Mr. Hudson still cares about you. Don’t do anything rash.”
I knew Liz meant well–she was probably worried about how I’d manage after a quick divorce. I gave her a slight smile. “Liz, this isn’t rash–I’m serious.”
“But, ma’am,” Liz said, pointing to my belly. “If not for yourself, think about the baby in your belly.”
My face went pale. I shot Liz a warning look.
‘Hadn’t she promised to keep it a secret? Why did she say that out loud?‘
Liz’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth with her hand, realizing her mistake.
I silently prayed Vincent hadn’t heard, but of course, he had. His voice turned frantic, “Baby? Gabby, are you pregnant? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“What pregnancy? Liz is just talking nonsense!” I lied, my voice shaky. “If I were pregnant, how would
Liz know about it?”
Vincent paused, looking at me with suspicion, trying to decide if I was lying.
I raised my eyebrows at Liz, and she quickly caught on, “Oh, Mr. Hudson, I misspoke. Don’t take it seriously. I just meant, maybe you should think about Toby before you make any decision.”
“Really not pregnant?” Vincent grabbed me suddenly, his grip tight. “Then let’s go to the hospital for a check–up! We need to be sure.”
I stumbled as he pulled me, practically yanking my suitcase from my hands and handing it to Liz. He

swept me up in his arms and started walking towards the door. “I’m taking you to the hospital. What if you really are pregnant?”
“Gabby,” he said, his voice softening, almost pleading. “If we’re really having another baby, can we not get divorced?”
