The Alpha’s Possession 22
Rishima vividly remembered that bitterly cold night. Alone in the yard, shivering until a kind neighbor found her and rushed her to the hospital the next morning, saving her life.
Shortly after, Zvonimir appeared in her dream. He stared at her with the intensity of a predator ready to devour its prey.
“Do you still love me?” His cold voice stirred a faint hope in her heart.
Zvonimir smirked with disdain. “Of course. I still miss you. After breaking our bond, I regretted it deeply. Come here. Let me see you.”
Her legs moved involuntarily toward him.
“Zvonimir.” A delicate female suddenly appeared, taking his hand and beaming with happiness.
Zvonimir gently stroked the female’s hair.
Furious, Rishima demanded, “Zvonimir, didn’t you say you missed me? Why are you bonding with Farah?”
“Fool!” Zvonimir sneered. “I grew tired of you long ago.”
His mocking gaze snapped Rishima awake. The music in the car had been turned off at some point, leaving the cabin in utter silence.
Rishima lay motionless, staring at the car ceiling. “I truly am a fool, so laughably naïve,” she thought bitterly.
It was almost unbelievable that, even in her dreams, she imagined Zvonimir still loved her.
A self–deprecating smile crept onto her face.
She admitted that she hadn’t yet accepted their severed bond. Maintaining her composure at his and Farah’s mate–bonding ceremony was proof of her strength.
She hated Zvonimir.
But deep down, she still wished he’d return, confessing his love for her alone, or that his relationship with Farah was merely a whim, forced by the elders.
But she had lost.
Tonight, at the mate–bonding ceremony, she had lost completely–so much so that she forfeited her dignity.
Rishima tried convincing herself that Zvonimir was just an arrogant reckless wolf, akin to a gang leader.
Yet, he once loved her dearly. He would’ve plucked stars from the sky for her, done anything for her.
Three years ago, when the empire suffered a massive earthquake, she and Zvonimir were trapped in a garage for four days without food or water.
On the fifth day, as Rishima’s strength failed, Zvonimir cut his own wrist to feed her his blood. He nearly died of shock before the
rescue team arrived.
With her eyes closed, Rishima mused, “When he loved me, he’d sacrifice his life for me. But once he stopped, even seeing me disgusts him, doesn’t it?”

Matthew drove Rishima to the base of her apartment building. Rishima had initially planned to invite him up for a bit, but considering the late hour, she decided to let him head home to rest.
So instead of inviting him in, Rishima simply said, “Mr. Jones, thank you for bringing me back.”
Matthew teased, “A thank–you isn’t enough. You’ll have to treat me to a meal someday.”
Rishima hadn’t anticipated his enthusiasm. Although surprised, she nodded and said, “I’d be delighted.“.
After exchanging phone numbers, Matthew finally drove off.
As soon as Rishima entered her apartment, Zelda pounced on her, hugging her tightly and interrogating her, “What’s going on between you and Matthew now?”
Rishima rubbed her temples, exhausted. “I’m too tired tonight. Let’s talk about it tomorrow.”
Seeing her fatigue, Zelda held back her questions.
Despite her exhaustion, once Rishima lay in bed, sleep eluded her. Her mind raced, leaving her with a headache and an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach.
She realized she hadn’t eaten dinner, and perhaps the two little wolves in her belly were starving. Sitting up, she made a simple sandwich and, while eating, began browsing flight information.
On the way home earlier, she’d decided to leave this place. She planned to settle in state L and had to move quickly to avoid being captured by the Silverfang Pack.
Earlier tonight, she had insulted the Silverfang wolves in front of the empire’s most distinguished wolves. She was certain that not only would Zvonimir not let her off the hook, but Mrs. Ashcroft would also want her skin.
Without hesitation, Rishima booked a flight to state L for this Thursday.
Today was Wednesday. By tomorrow, she would leave the empire.
Though the timeline was tight, she had already resigned, and this rented apartment would be handed over to Zelda. There was nothing left to tie her to the empire.
Once everything was set, Rishima finally felt at ease and went to sleep.
It was midnight.
Raindrops continued to fall lightly. The lights in Zvonimir’s villa were still on.
Standing by the window, Zvonimir smoked continuously. The ashtray beside him was filled with over a dozen cigarette butts, and the bedroom was shrouded in smoke.
Zvonimir wasn’t addicted to smoking; he only smoked when troubled After Rishima became his mate, he had quit entirely because she said she disliked the smell.
But after severing their mate bond, he didn’t know when it started, but he often felt restless, his mood heavy with frustration.
Tonight was his mate–bonding party with Farah. Both packs were elated, and logically, he should have been too. Yet, he couldn’t stop thinking about Rishima, which suffocated him.
“Rishima Walson! You’re such a flirtatious female.”

“We only just broke our mate bond, and you’re already seducing other male wolves. If I had known you were like this, I would’ve taken you in the lounge and marked you permanently, ensuring no other wolf dared approach you.”
Zvonimir harshly extinguished his cigarette, lit another, and found his mind plagued with images of Rishima’s alluring beauty.
If he could just subdue her, overpower her a bit, she would definitely cry. Thinking about her stubborn nature and tearful face, his arousal surged, and his frustrations deepened.
He emptied a pack of cigarettes in no time.
Just as he was about to open another, footsteps and a sweet, feminine scent of a female approached him from behind. A soft body pressed against his back.
“Zvonimir,” Farah cooed, wrapping her arms around his waist. Her full chest pressed into his back, her voice sweet and soft. “It’s late. Let’s go to bed.
Zvonimir embraced her absentmindedly and said, “There’s still some work I haven’t finished. You go ahead to bed.”
