Chapter 16: The More the Merrier
The next morning, Irene stood in the kitchen, the sizzle of bacon filling the air. She expertly flipped the eggs while keeping an eye on the toaster, falling easily into the familiar rhythm of preparing breakfast for her little ones. These quiet morning moments were precious – just her and her thoughts before the whirlwind that was raising triplets began for the day.
A soft, sleepy voice broke through her reverie. “Mommy?”
Irene turned to find Alex standing in the kitchen doorway, Lucas and Lily right behind him. Her heart melted at the sight – all three of them in their adorable animal onesies, clutching their favorite stuffed animals, hair adorably mussed from sleep. Alex had chosen a lion outfit, Lucas was sporting a penguin, and Lily completed the trio in her unicorn pajamas.
“Good morning, sweethearts,” she smiled warmly. “Did you sleep well?”
Three pairs of identical eyes blinked sleepily at her, and she had to suppress a chuckle at how synchronized they were even when half–asleep.
“Go wash up and get dressed,” she instructed gently. “Breakfast is almost ready.”
“Okay!” they chorused, their voices still carrying that adorable morning drowsiness.
Irene watched fondly as they shuffled off to their morning routines. For five–year–olds, they were remarkably self–sufficient, something she took both pride and slight sadness in. They’d had to grow up faster than most children their age.
By the time they returned – faces freshly washed and dressed in carefully coordinated outfits – breakfast was laid out on the table. They climbed into their seats with impeccable manners, something that never failed to amuse her. What five–year–olds remembered to put their napkins in their laps without being reminded?
After breakfast, a knock at the door interrupted their morning routine. Lily immediately perked up, her face brightening.
“I’ll get it!” she announced cheerfully, hopping down from her chair and scampering toward the door with the boundless energy only small children seemed to possess.

Irene could hear her daughter’s polite greeting. “Mr. Thomas!”
Standing up to investigate, Irene found Thomas at her doorstep, accompanied by two professionally dressed security guards. Her assistant’s impeccable appearance was somewhat at odds with the early hour.
“Miss Irene,” Thomas greeted with his usual politeness. “We’re here to help with the
move.”
She couldn’t help but laugh. “In such a hurry? The property transfer papers haven’t even been processed yet.”
Thomas’s smile was apologetic but determined. “Treatment shouldn’t be delayed, Miss Irene. Please bear with us. The paperwork can be handled later – Haven Enterprise’s reputation speaks for itself. This is also our boss’s wish.”
Behind his professional demeanor, Thomas was anxious. He’d seen too many potential specialists slip through their fingers, and he couldn’t let that happen again. Mr. Haven needed this treatment, and he needed it soon.
Irene sighed inwardly, looking around at the apartment they’d barely settled into. At least they hadn’t unpacked much yet – small mercies. “Alright,” she conceded. “Give us a
moment to pack.”
The entrance to Emerald Garden Estate took Irene’s breath away despite herself. The exclusive residential area was a masterpiece of landscape design, with mature trees and expertly manicured gardens creating an atmosphere of secluded luxury. A discreet but obvious security presence monitored the entrance, where an elegant gate marked the boundary between the outside world and this haven of privilege.

As Thomas led them through the property, Irene took in the details of what would be their new home. The villa exceeded her expectations in every way from the high–end furnishings to the state–of–the–art AI system that Thomas briefly demonstrated. Every room spoke of thoughtful design, seamlessly blending modern luxury with classical elegance. The spacious layout flowed naturally from room to room, with floor–to–ceiling windows flooding the space with natural light.

exclamations. Their joy was infectious, and Irene found herself warming to the space despite her initial reservations.
Alex, ever curious, paused at the balcony railing. “Where does Mr. Haven live?” he asked, looking around at the neighboring properties.
“Right next door, Thomas replied with a smile.
Irene’s eyebrows shot up. “That close?”
Thomas nodded, launching into an explanation. “Emerald Garden Estate was actually developed by Haven Enterprise. These plots were originally connected. Most were given to important business partners, but these two properties – this one and the one next door – remained with our boss.”
He was quick to reassure her. “But please don’t worry, Miss Irene. Our boss lives alone, so this house has been empty, though we maintain weekly cleaning services.”
Irene nodded thoughtfully. “I’ll need some time to settle in. I can come by for the
examination this afternoon.”
“Of course,” Thomas agreed readily. “Please let me know if you need anything. We’ve
stocked the refrigerator with ingredients for lunch.”
Irene’s eyebrows twitched slightly at that last detail. She’d been wondering about grocery shopping without a car, but it seemed Thomas had thought of everything. “Thank you,” she said quietly.
“It’s my pleasure,” Thomas responded respectfully before taking his leave.
As the door closed behind him, Irene and her children began the familiar process of
unpacking and settling into their new space.
By lunchtime, Irene was in the kitchen, pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of ingredients Thomas had arranged. The professional–grade appliances were a chef’s dream, and she found herself enjoying the process of preparing a special meal for her family.
The triplets gathered around the dining table, their eyes wide with anticipation.

Alex, who had been unusually thoughtful all morning, suddenly spoke up. “Shouldn’t we invite Mr. Haven over? He is our neighbor now, and after that misunderstanding at the hotel… plus, he’s giving us this house…”

Irene looked at their hopeful faces, feeling her resistance crumbling. After five years of it being just the four of them, the idea of sharing a meal with someone else – particularly Adam Haven gave her pause. She pursed her lips, knowing she was fighting a losing

“Fine,” she sighed, trying to hide a reluctant smile. “You three go invite him, and I’ll prepare a few more dishes.”
“Yay!” The triplets‘ cheer was deafening as they rushed out the door, practically bouncing with excitement. Within moments, they were at the neighboring villa’s entrance, stretching up on their tiptoes to reach the doorbell.
