Chapter 132 His Niece
“Amelia!” Carrie called out. She went over and wanted to slap Amelia. But then, she hesitated and put her hand down unwillingly.
Her tone turned skeptical as she asked, “What brings you here?”
Then she continued, “Wait, you’re here to pester Nolan again! Have you really no shame? He’s about to get married!” Her voice was loud enough for nearly everyone nearby to hear.
Amelia frowned. She was about to reply when she saw Nathan approaching them. He was exceptionally polite to Carrie as he said, “Ms. Hale, please head inside. Mr. Hale’s available now.”
Carrie was delighted. She couldn’t be bothered with Amelia anymore. She dashed into the office, closing the door behind her.
Nathan watched her leave, glanced at Amelia, and gave her a cold nod before leaving. There was an obvious contrast in his attitude.
Amelia didn’t dwell on it. After sitting back down at her desk, she started organizing her documents.
Then she got up and knocked on the office door. A voice replied, “Come in.” Dylan was seated in his chair. There was an array of exquisite desserts on the table beside him, which were obviously brought by Carrie.
She was excitedly chattering away, recounting recent events with him. “Dylan, you’ve no idea. I slapped the person who tried to frame me right then and there. They were so stunned!”
She let out a chuckle. “I remember you saying that if I wanted to hit someone, I shouldn’t hold back. And you said you’d support me!”
Dylan paused. He had his pen in his hand as he praised, “Yes, you’ve done a great job.”
Carrie wanted to get closer to him. Only then did she notice Amelia. A hint of disgust flashed in her eyes. “You again?”
Amelia ignored her, placed the documents next to Dylan and tapped them lightly. She said, “Mr. Hale, I need your confirmation on this. They’re hoping that…”
But before she could finish, Carrie interrupted her. She said, “Amelia, can’t you see I’m still talking to him? Can’t you be more patient?”
Amelia kept her composure. She was about to retort when Dylan shoved the documents away.
“Come back later,” he said coldly.
Amelia froze. She took a few seconds to collect herself before taking the documents. All the while, she maintained a professional attitude. “Alright,” she replied. She turned to leave. As she opened the office door, she could still hear Carrie’s excited voice.
“Dylan, she said she was gonna report me to the police. But you already know what happened after that. I called Nathan, and they apologized to me.”
The scene would have looked very heartwarming if Carrie had hidden the deep affection in her eyes. After returning to her desk, Amelia felt uneasy. She got up to fetch some hot water from the pantry. And she was just in time to overhear a conversation.

Chapter 132 His Niece
“Don’t you think both of them are way too close?”
“The last time she was here, she heard that someone had a crush on him and slapped them right across the face. She also told them that they were unworthy of him,” someone else chimed in,
“And Mr. Hale spoils her, like, a lot. I heard she even has bodyguards with her at school.”
“They’re all from the Hale family, right? Well, he’s probably just looking after his niece…”
The conversation continued, “You’re wrong. I heard gossip at a club. They were from Ms. Hale herself. Apparently, she’s adopted by the Hale family, so they’re not blood–related.”
Amelia took a sip of water and knocked on the door. It gave them a shock. But they relaxed when they saw Amelia and even told her to join their gossip. “Amelia, you know her brother, right? Tell us, is it true? Was she really adopted? Does Mr. Hale have a thing for her?”
Amelia filled her cup and smiled. “I’m not really sure.”
As she was leaving, she caught a few snide remarks. Someone clicked their tongue and said, “She said she’s not sure. She probably just doesn’t wanna offend Ms. Hale.”
“Exactly. Nolan’s her brother. Everyone knows she’s still chasing after him.”
“She’s really got no shame. It’s pathetic how she’s doing all this stuff just to get a man’s heart.”
Amelia stopped in her tracks and turned around with a sweet smile. “I’ll let Mr. Hale know that you guys are gossiping here during working hours and have your pay docked.”
Their faces turned pale. They quickly filled their cups and hurried out. Still fuming, Amelia sat back at her desk, unable to shake her discomfort.
Just then, Carrie exited the office. As she passed Amelia’s desk, she stopped. And with a flick of her hand, she swept all the documents onto the floor. She looked every bit the proud little princess she was, waiting to see Amelia’s reaction.
Amelia said nothing, which immediately made Carrie lose interest. She let out a sneer and said, “Nolan said you’ve grown pretty short–tempered lately. But look at you, you’re still holding yourself back.”
She rolled her eyes. “Just so you know, I’m having dinner with Dylan tonight. Whatever tricks you’re trying, they won’t work. No matter if it’s with Nolan or Dylan. You’re not worthy enough to even mingle with the men in the Hale family.”
