As soon as the lights dimmed, everything blurred before her eyes. She couldn’t make out his expression. At first, it felt like he was angry, but later it seemed more like he was avoiding something.
But she’d always been slow to pick up on these things, so she simply leaned back on the sofa.
“Good night then, Mr. Hale.”
“Mm.”
Neither of them said anything more after that brief exchange.
Things were quiet between the two of them, but the uproar caused by that recording was still raging on.
People in their social circle were frantically discussing whether the recording was real.
Eventually, someone from the Summers family responded, claiming Amelia herself fabricated the recording. They added that she would personally clarify the matter in a few days.
Everyone had heard about how vicious Amelia could be. It was no secret that she had always disliked the sister who had only recently returned to the Summers family.
“I knew it had to be fake! That didn’t sound like the Milly Summers I know. She’s always been so gentle.”
“The Summers family must have the patience of saints. After all the trouble Amelia had caused, they still haven’t kicked her out.”
“But someone I know who specializes in this kind of thing said the audio wasn’t fake. So what’s the real story?”
“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Amelia Summers says.”
Everyone was just watching the drama unfold.
But Milly was panicking. She wanted to call Amelia and make her come clean about the recording being fake, but Amelia had already blocked her.
She thought about calling Nolan to complain, but he didn’t answer.
Her expression turned dark. She could only urge Timothy Chase to act quickly Amelia and force her to admit she had pushed someone, and admit the recor they could finally make that wretched Amelia disappear for good.

And since his face rarely showed any emotion to begin with, no one else could tell when he was upset. But Amelia paid close attention. She noticed that the corners of his mouth would turn down just slightly when he was annoyed.
Dylan Hale’s thoughts were truly hard to read.
But she was sure of one thing: he was a good person!
Feeling a bit nervous, she pushed the food around in her bowl with her fork.
“Once I’ve dealt with Timothy, I’ll come by whenever I can to act as your human sleeping pill. I hope you won’t mind, Mr. Hale.”
She felt incredibly embarrassed after saying it, but couldn’t think of any other way to repay him.
Dylan had everything, except good sleep.
That was the one thing she could offer, so she braced herself and said it.
He glanced up at her, and the corners of his mouth ever so slightly twitched upward.
“Mm.”
For some reason, that lifted Amelia’s spirits a great deal. She even ate an extra serving!
After leaving Palm Bay, she returned straight to her own place. But the moment she got out of the car, she saw another vehicle already waiting.
It was a luxury car worth tens of millions.
Her heart raced. A few well–trained bodyguards stepped out, it was clear they were not ordinary people.
They didn’t manhandle her; instead, they bowed slightly.
“Ms. Summers, Mr. Hale Senior would like to see you.”
They meant the head of the Hale family.
She instinctively reached for her phone to call Dylan, but a bodyguard gently pushed her hand down.
Their tone remained respectful.
“Mr. Hale Senior won’t harm you. He just has a few things he wants to say.”
With no other option, she put her phone away.
As she sat in the car, her nerves were a mess. But it didn’t take long to guess why he wanted to see her.
Mr. Hale Senior was a man who had weathered many storms. Back in his prime, he held immense power and respect. Even though he’d stepped down, people still lined up for a chance to meet him. And yet, many in their circle had never seen him in person.

The heavy iron gates opened, and she could see patrolling bodyguards throughout the grounds.
The car drove another ten minutes before stopping in front of the main residence.

The bodyguards remained calm and courteous the entire time. There was no disdain in their expressions, as if they hadn’t heard a word of gossip surrounding her.
Once she got out, she was led into the main hall and then up to the second–floor study.
The study was nearly two hundred square meters. It was made entirely of rare purple–black sandalwood, and it emitted a faint, pleasant scent. The large desk in the center was crafted from mahogany, so rare and valuable it was nearly priceless.
