3 Empty Room
“It’s nothing, I was just curious.”
As soon as Amelia said that, Dylan let go of her hand and went back to reading his book.
Another knock came from the door, with Carrie’s voice growing more cautious.
“Dylan, I brought you a gift. Could you please open the door?”
He rubbed his temples and slowly got out of bed to open the door.
Amelia noticed that he had pulled his robe tighter around his chest and fastened it neatly as he opened the
door. It was completely different from the casual way he looked moments ago.
She was a little surprised. Was Dylan worried about Carrie seeing something?
If that was the case, why wasn’t he worried about her seeing it?
Something about that just felt… off.
Dylan opened only a crack as he stood by the door.
Carrie’s eyes sparkled, her gaze shyly lingering on his face.
“Dylan, this is a gift I picked out for you.”
”
Dylan took it, and his face remained expressionless. “It’s late, you should head back.”
She stomped her foot. It was obvious that she had no desire to leave.
“I want to stay. It’s been ages since I last saw you… Don’t you miss me?”
His brows furrowed slightly as he moved to close the door.
Suddenly, Carrie reached out to block the door/when she caught sight of a strand of long hair stuck to the frame.
It was clearly a woman’s hair!
Her expression shifted instantly as she shoved the door open with force.
“There’s a woman in your room, isn’t there? But you said before, you said you’d never marry anyone in this lifetime!”
As she pushed the door open, she stepped inside and looked around the corner. To her dismay, the room was empty.
Still not giving up, she yanked open the curtains and even checked the balcony. Yet, she found nothing.
However, it was undeniable that the long hair belonged to a woman.
Dylan stood by the bathroom, his tone still flat.
“Carrie, it’s time you learn to grow up.”

Her eyes turned red. At that moment, she realized she hadn’t checked the bathroom.

“You were the one who took me in back then. You said all I needed to do was be happy. Dylan, do you have everything you promised me? I’m going to check the bathroom!”
She brushed past Dylan, heading straight for the bathroom.
He tried to block her with one arm, his expression finally turning stern.
“Stop this nonsense.”
“I won’t! I’m checking!”
Her tantrum was honestly unbearable, yet Dylan didn’t say anything more.
Carrie hurried over and threw open the bathroom door.
Dylan had already prepared for this. But the bathroom turned out to be empty.
Carrie immediately sighed with relief when she noticed that no one was inside. With that, she walked out embarrassed.
“Dylan, I’m sorry I misunderstood you. That hair must have been left by the cleaning lady. She should’ve . been more careful since you’re such a neat freak after all.”
Dylan only ordered one thing. “Leave.”
Carrie realized she’d gone too far tonight. She stuck out her tongue playfully and headed out, still not forgetting to remind him, “Okay, I’ll head out now. Don’t forget to check your gift!”
She seemed oddly pleased with herself, even her footsteps sounded lighter.
Once the door was shut, Dylan scanned the room. However, even after checking the balcony, Amelia was nowhere in sight.
Then, he went downstairs. As expected, he found her curled up in a corner beneath the balcony, looking pitiful.
The moment Amelia realized what Carrie was about to do earlier, she jumped own from the balcony in panic.
Her leg was already injured, and the jump had tugged at the wound. It made it impossible for her to walk. So, she had no choice but to sit there.
She was still there when she saw Dylan/coming down.
He wasn’t even using his wheelchair this time. And maybe she was imagining it, but she thought she caught a flicker of anger on his face.
Her heart sank.
Dylan approached her swiftly but didn’t offer her a hand. Instead, he asked, “Can you get up?”
His tone made her feel cold all over. She trembled. “I can.”
“Then get up on your own.”

Amelia slowly braced herself against the wall as she stood up. Her thigh was wrapped in gauze, now stained with fresh blood.
He stared at the spot for a few seconds, then silently extended his hand.
Amelia took it cautiously, not forgetting to whisper, “Thank you.”
He paused mid–step and stayed silent for half a minute. He then sighed softly.
When Amelia was finally back in the bedroom, her face had gone pale.
Dylan brought the first aid kit and gently unwrapped the gauze on her leg.
The injury was high up on her thigh. He had no choice but to roll her skirt all the way up, exposing her long fair legs.
She felt embarrassed at first, but Dylan didn’t even glance at them. He quickly and efficiently dressed the wound, then averted his eyes.
She had wanted to say something, but he turned away just as fast. He set the first aid kit aside and switched off the lights.
