Chapter 115 Unraveling Lies
His lips tightened into a thin line. “Are you still keeping up this act?”
A wave of exhaustion washed over Amelia.
She shrugged and turned to leave, but Nolan’s hand shot out, grabbing her wrist.
“I’ll look into it. If you were wrongly accused, I won’t hold you responsible.”
With her back still to him, Amelia arched an eyebrow, her tone softening slightly.
“Can you promise you won’t automatically take Milly’s side, no matter what the truth is?”
Seeing how much his answer mattered to her, Nolan’s expression relaxed. “I promise.”
He stepped forward, gently turning her to face him. Placing his hands on her shoulders, he asked seriously, “Do you still have feelings for me?”
He genuinely needed to know.
Amelia knew he was already on her side, so telling a small lie wouldn’t do any harm.
“Maybe I do remember. But even if I’ve forgotten, what you did still hurts me.”
Nolan, appearing content, reached out and lightly pinched her cheek.
“I won’t let them lock you up in a psychiatric hospital. Not until everything is cleared up, at least.”
Amelia rolled her eyes inwardly, yet her face conveyed a look of gratitude.
“Okay.”
She turned and made her way down the corridor. From the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a coat that looked strikingly like Dylan’s.
Her steps hurried instinctively, but when she reached the end, it was empty. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her.
Dylan should’ve been at work. There was no reason for him to be at the hospital.
Milly had heard everything from behind the door, her face contorted into a terrifying mask.
She knew she had to get rid of that doctor immediately and leave no evidence.
Through the hospital room door’s window, she saw Nolan heading toward the doctor’s office, and her anxiety shot through the roof.
Nolan was now sitting opposite the very doctor who had declared the child lost.
Having overheard everything, Damien was drenched in sweat, his frazzled nerves on edge.
After a sleepless night, his head was clouded and slow to process.
Nolan might not have been the most cunning, but as a Hale, his authority and striking appearance were enough to intimidate.

Dr. Dawson, are you sure Milly lost the baby?”
Damien fumbled to wipe the sweat from his face, his lips trembling as he tried to speak. Just then a at the door announced the arrival of a nurse.
“Dr. Dawson, Ms. Summers just vomited. You should come take a look
A chill ran down Damien’s spine, and he immediately stood up.
“Sorry, Mr. Hale, I need to check on Ms. Summers first.”
Nolan followed him to Milly’s hospital room.
Milly rinsed her mouth with bottled water, appearing extremely delicate and weak.
Damien approached, their eyes meeting. The veiled menace in Milly’s gaze made his stomach tighten with
unease.
The memory of the truck from the night before and its rough–looking driver flashed through his mind.
After completing a brief examination, he quickly came up with a reason to excuse himself.
Nolan still wanted to question him and moved to follow, but Milly caught his wrist.
“Nolan, you promised you’d always protect me.” You said you’d never let Amelia bully me.”
When Milly first came to the Summers family, Nolan would often find her crying alone in a corner during his visits to Amelia. Milly always claimed she was being bullied, insisting that no matter how hard she tried to please Amelia, she was met only with insults.
Her vulnerability had deeply affected Nolan, and over time, his favoritism toward her
“You said it, you promised me…” Milly choked out, her voice barely audible.
Nolan slowly sat down beside her. “I’ll stay here with you.”
Meanwhile, after leaving the room, Damien felt a cold sweat drenching him.
grew.
He headed to the restroom to wash his face, but a burly figure caught his eye, making him freeze like a startled bird.
The truck driver was here at the hospital!
Was he planning something? Would he pull a knife and stab him right there?
The thought had haunted Damien all night, filling his sleep with visions of being killed by that towering man. Now, facing him in real life, Damien felt utterly shaken.
His thoughts immediately raced to Amelia and Nolan.
He rushed into his office, snatching up the recording of his conversation with Milly which was a safeguard he’d held onto in case she ever turned on him.
With his safety now at stake, he needed someone he could rely on. Thinking back to Amelia’s kindness the previous night, he didn’t hesitate and quickly headed downstairs to find her.

Meanwhile, back in the hospital room, Milly was growing increasingly anxious. She was desperate jer of Damien that very night, but she couldn’t risk letting Nolan leave, afraid he might go searching for Damien himself.
A glimmer of cruelty flickered in her eyes. If only she had dealt with Damien earlier.
“Nolan, do you remember what you promised me when you took my virginity? Have you forgotten already?”
She leaned on his emotions, fully aware of how much a woman’s first time could sway him.
