Just as she was about to let out a breath of relief, someone next to her asked, “Why did your attitude toward Mr. Hale become so bad? You used to really like him.”
Amelia didn’t know how to explain it. That’s exactly why she hoped Nolan and Milly would get married soon, so they could be bound together and be done with it.
After work, she drove to the hospital where Alexander was staying.
Just as she parked outside, she ran into Timothy.
Timothy stood outside smoking. When he saw her, a flash of disgust passed through his eyes.
Seeing him there, Amelia knew that Milly must be inside too.
This bootlicker really had no dignity. Milly was already pregnant, and he was still tailing her around.
Did Nolan know someone was eyeing his future wife like this?
She ignored him and headed straight to Alexander’s ward.
Before she even entered, she heard Milly’s voice inside. “Alexander, Timothy didn’t mean to. I asked him to come and apologize.”
Alexander sounded aggrieved. He wouldn’t have gotten hurt last night if Timothy hadn’t suddenly swerved into him like a lunatic. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, he might’ve ended up in the emergency room.
But Timothy was Nolan’s friend and also had a decent relationship with Milly. He couldn’t say anything, so he forced out a stiff response.
“It’s fine.”
Milly reached out and patted his head. “Why don’t you call Amelia? Ask her to cook something for you. You’ve already spent a night in the hospital. You look like you’ve lost weight. Eat more, or I’ll feel bad.”
A strange feeling surfaced in Alexander’s heart. He remembered what Amelia had said, “Don’t “en to what she says, watch what she does.”
“Milly, why don’t you cook for me?”
Milly’s hand froze mid–motion. Her smile stiffened slightly.
“I’m pregnant, remember?”
“You’ve never cooked before either.”
Milly’s smile completely faded. In the past, these sweet words were enough to win her brother over. But now, he wasn’t so easy to please.
Amelia, who had been standing at the doorway, burst out laughing.
Alexander heard her and got excited, nearly jumping up, then remembered something and slowly sat back down, deliberately turning his head away.

first?” Alexander frowned and refused to look at Amelia
Then he noticed her hands were empty. Other people brought flowers to the hospital,l but Amelia showed up empty–handed. It was clear he didn’t matter to her.
And thinking about how she had used him and tossed him aside only made him angrier.
“Amelia, just get lost. I don’t need you to visit me.”
But Amelia had him figured out; he was the type to say the opposite of what he wanted. The more he needed something, the more he pretended not to care.
Amelia sat down and casually picked up some fruit from the bedside table and began peeling it.
Seeing this, Alexander instantly felt better. Most of his anger melted away.
Amelia quickly peeled an apple. Alexander reached out to take it, only to watch her pop a piece into her own mouth.
“Amelia!” He exploded, chest heaving with rage. If not for the bandages around his leg, he’d have stormed out of bed right then.
Amelia chuckled, then cut off another piece and held it out to him.
“Relax. I’m just teasing you. Here, eat.”
Alexander had a dozen angry words ready to yell at her, but now he didn’t know whether to shout or not. He felt like she had him completely figured out.
Still, he really did want to eat the fruit she’d cut. After sulking for a few seconds, he finally leaned in and took a bite.
“It tastes average. Super sour.”
Their playful bickering looked almost unbearably intimate from Milly’s perspective.
She knew Alexander well. He was spoiled and petulant, but when he didn’t care about some even speak to them. The more he cared, the more he complained like a child desperate for

He only acted this way in front of Amelia.
Milly’s hands slowly clenched into fists. Her face had gone pale.
Sensing that he might’ve been ignoring Milly, Alexander quickly added, “Milly, Amelia is here. Don’t fight today, okay? Just for my sake.”
Milly stood up, her smile not reaching her eyes. “I’ll go for a walk. I have a few words to say to Amelia later.”
Alexander nodded, then quickly turned back to Amelia.
“You too. Can you please not argue with the family today? I’m in so much pain. You have no idea how scared I was last night. Timothy’s car came out of nowhere. I really thought I was going to die.”
He was dying to spill out all of his fears from last night. He was full of grievances. It was all Timothy’s fault, but their parents told them not to blame Timothy.
