“Mr Hale, are you feeling better after taking medicine?”
Only then did he lift his gaze and give a quiet nod. He shook the wrist that she had just grabbed.
Amelia immediately let go. She didn’t dare overstep in front of him and hurried to apologize. “I’m sorry, I was too anxious earlier. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
The backseat fell into heavy silence. Amelia couldn’t tell whether Dylan was angry or not.
She straightened up and looked out the window, the corner of his mouth lifting ever so slightly, then fading again.
The car stopped at Palm Bay, Jonathan went out and opened the back door with the intention of helping Dylan out, only to find Dylan asleep, his head resting on Amelia’s shoulder.
Jonathan had driven slowly the entire way. Something nearly unthinkable for someone who used to love. speeding. It had taken forty minutes to get here.
Amelia had dozed off too, though she’d leaned on the car window instead of toward Dylan. But Dylan’s head had tilted onto her shoulder, and now he was fast asleep.
When the door opened, Amelia stirred and tried to speak, but Jonathan gestured for silence.
Even his tone softened for once, no longer picking a fight. “Let him sleep a little longer. He hasn’t slept well in a long time.”
Insomnia?
No wonder his eyes were so bloodshot. He looked like someone who hadn’t rested in days.
She didn’t dare move a muscle. From the corner of her eye, she could see his tousled hair and long eyelashes.
It was hard to believe that someone as powerful as Dylan could sleep so peacefully now.
She felt a bit nervous. Her shoulder twitched slightly just as Jonathan whispered a threat, “If you wake him, I’ll kill you.”
Amelia swallowed hard. This guy was awful. She shut her eyes and tried to steady her heartbeat.
She didn’t know how long it lasted. The atmosphere was so quiet and calm that her own head started to nod.
When she woke up again, she heard the sound of pages turning.
They were no longer in the car. It looked like they were inside Palm Bay. She was lying on a luxurious couch in the living room.
Amelia jolted upright, looking around. Jonathan’s mocking voice greeted her. “Are you a pig? How long were you planning to sleep?”
She checked the time on her phone. It was 9:00 pm. Embarrassment hit her instantly.
Ignoring Jonathan, she went to check on Dylan. After resting in the afternoon, he looked a bit better.

“Mr. Hale, I heard from Mr. Grant that you’ve been suffering from Insomnia. Have you ever tried traditiona Chinese medicine?
It might help and it didn’t come with side effects.
Dylan paused his movements. “I haven’t.”
“Then I’ll go find a reputable traditional Chinese medicine doctor to prescribe something for you. It might be helpful.”
She wasn’t trying to gain favor. It was just that earlier, she’d thought he brought her to the cemetery to settle scores. She’d wrongly assumed the worst and wanted to make up for it.
Dylan raised an eyebrow slightly, his lips pressed into a tight line.
“Yes.
Amelia stood up and said respectfully. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.”
She turned to leave, only for Jonathan to stop her.
“Why are you leaving? He can sleep next to you. Just stay and be his sleeping pill.”
Amelia froze mid–step, scalp tingling. Had she heard him right?
Jonathan strode over and whispered something only the two of them could hear, “You’re staying. If I find out you left, I’ll make your life hell. Not even Dylan will be able to protect you.”
His eyes were cold and dark. Anyone close to Dylan couldn’t possibly be ordinary.
Amelia felt paralyzed. A bitter taste filled her mouth.
Luckily, Dylan was there to save the day. “Jonathan, it’s time you headed home.”
Jonathan continued to whisper in her ears. “Stay, If I knew that you didn’t, I’ll break your legs.”
He was so unreasonable!
Amelia wanted to fight back, to give him the finger, but she hardly had the guts.
Amelia forced a smile, and she hurried back to Dylan’s side. “Mr. Hale, let me stay and take care of you. I’m very good at that sort of thing.”
Between shame and survival, she knew exactly which one mattered more.
Jonathan looked pleased with her sense of self–preservation and waved dismissively. “Dylan, I’m off. Tonight I’m going to find someone to cheat with.”
Otherwise, the Grant family would drag him home to make babies. They’ve been nagging about it for ages.
Dylann said nothing. Only after Jonathan left did he slowly turn back. “You can go too”
Amelia didn’t dare. She smiled ingratiatingly. “Mr. Hale, I’m really good at looking after people. Please let me stay.”
The moment she said it, she wanted to crawl into a hole and die. In her heart, she’d cursed Jonathan a

His hand on the wheelchair paused. He turned back to look at her.
He threatened you?”
“No, I want to stay.
