Chapter 97 Two Different Worlds

Amelia took a deep breath. For reasons she couldn’t explain, she had the distinct feeling that Dylan’s gaze had landed on her. It wasn’t warm, but it was intensely focused, unflinchingly direct

Are you done talking? You think highly of yourself. Do you think I’ve lost my mind because of your wedding? Where’s the evidence for your imagination?”

But Nolan was convinced her recent odd behavior had been caused by emotional overload. He reached our and wrapped an arm around her waist

Alright, I’ll take you to see a psychiatrist after work.”

Amelia had had enough. Without hesitation, she lifted her knee and struck him square in the most vulnerable spot

Nolan doubled over in pain, face drained of color

Amelia!”

She felt much better until she looked up and met Dylan’s eyes. Her whole body froze

Amelia had just attacked a member of the Hale family right in front of Dylan. He couldn’t possibly be okay with that

Mr. Hale, I didn’t mean to, I just”

But under his gaze, even the most carefully rehearsed excuse felt childish and transparent

He averted his gaze and lowered his lashes. Go clean the archive room. Stay there for a day.”

A surprisingly mild punishment

Amelia quickly nodded. Yes. Right away.”

The moment she exited the office, she rushed to the Hale Corporation’s archive room

Once she was gone, the only ones left were Nolan and a palefaced Nolan

Still bent over slightly, Nolan tried to recover his dignity. I’ll take her to a psychiatrist later. I think something’s really off with her.”

Dylan looked through the file and replied in a neutral tone, Are you sure it’s because of you?”

Something in the question struck a nerve

A ridiculous thought surfaced again. One he couldn’t entirely suppress. The words slipped out before he could think better of it

I slept with Amelia.”

The entire room fell into silence, like someone had pressed pause

place

Nolan didn’t dare look up. The pressure in the room was suffocating. Still, pride kept him roote

We grew up together. Things escalated. I couldn’t help it. It was my fault. His hands curled slowly at his

sides, fingertips trembling

Dylan, aren’t you visiting Ms. Grant’s grave today?A gentle reminder not to forget the one who’d passed

Nolan didn’t know why his heart was beating so fast. Dylan was the most powerful man in Solandis. He couldn’t possibly care about someone like Amelia, not after the accident

He wasn’t trying to demean her. But the darker part of him couldn’t help it. The silence stretched until Dylan finally responded

If you cared about her, you wouldn’t talk about her that way.”

Just one sentence, and the difference between them was clear

Nolan lowered his head, biting down hard. I just wanted to remind you. She used to be mine.”

Leave,” Dylan said, and said nothing more. His eyes stayed on the document in front of him, calm and unreadable, as though he hadn’t heard a thing

Nolan faltered. Had he imagined it all? Amelia and Dylan were definitely from different worlds

Even after Nolan left the office, he felt sick. His face had turned pale. He suddenly thought that maybe it was for the best if Amelia married someone like Felix

The archive room was massive, around 300 square meters

Amelia had come prepared for hours of cleaning. But inside, she found the space spotless, clearly maintained by staff. There was nothing left to do

Amelia grabbed a random book, laid it over her face, and settled in for a nap. She was enjoying her rest without a shred of shame

She didn’t know how long she’d been asleep when someone lifted the book from her face

Drowsyeyed, she opened them and saw Dylan standing over her. Amelia jolted upright in shock

Dylan glanced at the book’s cover and, with his low, magnetic voice, read aloud the title. Living with My Male Boss?”

What! Why was that even here

She’d only grabbed something to block the light. She hadn’t even looked at the title

A staff member must’ve left it behind..

Amelia’s face went crimson in an instant. Her scalp tingled. She scrambled to explain. That’s not mine.”

The door was closed. Dylan stood beside her, no longer in his wheelchair. The afternoon sunlight streamed in, casting warm light over both of them

He flipped the book open casually

Amelia was mortified. The title alone said enough. She didn’t even want to imagine the contents

Amelia snatched the book from his hands and flung it across the room

Mr. Hale, that kind of book’s bad for your eyes. Better not read it.”

Dylan was dressed in his usual black suit. He glanced at her flushed face, then looked away

I told you to clean up. Not nap.”

I’m sorry.”
