Chapter 80 Into His Hands
Amelia slowly edged her way to the window. There was nowhere left to hide.
Her gaze fell on the vase beside her. She’d already smashed one at Felix last time, so he was on guard now.
“Amelia, I swear I’ll do everything in my power to make you sleep with me tonight!” Felix shouted, lunging at her again.
Yet, he didn’t expect her to step right onto the window ledge. Things would surely end badly if she jumped down from the third floor.
“Amelia, you-
Before he could finish, Amelia shot him a glare and leapt out the window.
Branches scratched her cheeks as she fell into a tall thicket, twisting her leg on impact. But she dared not linger, knowing full well Jessica’s men would be after her in no time.
As she limped down a small path beside her, she heard Felix–yelling behind her.
“Jessica, she’s getting away! Get someone to catch her!”
Amelia had been right, after all. Jessica wouldn’t spare her after being pushed beyond her limits today.
The bodyguards set off quickly, running in her direction.
Amelia climbed a tree, scaled the wall beside it, then jumped down again.
Now, she was finally outside the villa. Her leg was badly swollen, and her cheeks were marred with red scratches.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded behind her.
Amelia thought she was doomed. She gave Felix’a hard time last time, and he’d definitely make her pay
now.
Jessica spoiled her brother endlessly, while Nolan was nothing but a coward. He was of no help at all.
As for Milly, Amelia was already grateful that she hadn’t drugged her.
Sweat beaded on Amelia’s forehead. The swelling in her ankle worsened after the jump.
As soon as she trudged away from the tree, a car horn sounded in the distance.
Her eyes lit up the moment she recognized the license plate. The tough façade she’d been putting on suddenly faded, and all of a sudden, her ankle hurt more than ever.
The car came to a halt beside her. She opened the door, realizing Dylan was inside.
Leaning against the armrest, he propped his head up with one arm and read in silence. The sunset light bathed him in a warm, golden hue.
Amelia quickly shut the door, her nose scrunching as she curled up in the corner.
The bodyguards had caught up, but they didn’t know whose car this was. One of them knocked on the

window.
“Is anyone inside?”
Finished
For a moment, Amelia worried Dylan might hand her over. She still wasn’t sure how he felt about her. After all, he was from the Hale family, and they were currently at his brother’s house.
But Dylan didn’t even glance outside. Instead, his gaze flicked to Nathan behind the wheel as he ordered, “Let’s go.”
The car sped off, leaving the bodyguards behind.
Relieved, Amelia let out a heavy breath and slumped into her seat. She glanced at her ankle—then Dylan’s voice rang out beside her.
“What happened to you?”
Truth be told, she wasn’t even sure how things had ended up like this.
Maybe it was because she had no one backing her, which was why Jessica dared to act so ruthlessly.
Amelia’s nose stung. It wasn’t until she looked up that she realized her cheeks were wet with tears.
Dylan set his book aside. After a few minutes, he asked, “Is this because you broke off the engagement?”
If it hurt this much, maybe she shouldn’t have ended it.
So, Amelia was still besotted with Nolan.
Dylan’s fingers twitched, his grip around the book tightening.
Amelia let out a wry laugh, too drained to explain. Blood was still trickling from the wounds on her face.
Everyone in Solandis thought she couldn’t live without Nolan–even Dylan himself believed it. Just how foolish had she been back then?
She leaned back in the seat and closed her eyes. A moment later, she sensed someone sidling up beside her, and something soft dabbed at her cheek.
When she blinked her eyes open, Dylan’s face came into view. He was gently disinfecting her wounds with a cotton swab.
A shiver ran down her spine.
She tried to sit up straight, but the movement only brought her closer to him.
Up close, his flawless skin and sharp features were impossible to ignore. His long lashes cast faint shadows under his eyes, making him look both distant and unreadable.
Amelia froze, but Dylan didn’t pull away. He continued tending to her injuries.
Tossing the used swab aside, he picked up another and dipped it into the disinfectant.
Amelia’s cheeks flushed.
She tried to back away, but he was faster. His hand landed firmly on the back of her head–gentleness gone,

his presence suddenly commanding
“Don’t move.”
*** Finished
She stayed perfectly still until he finished. Then, he carefully placed a bandage over her wounds.
As Dylan capped the disinfectant bottle, Amelia finally exhaled. They had been so close that it was impossible not to feel the weight of his presence.
