Chapter 76 Tea and Trauma
Amella walked in slowly and greeted Jessica with a smile.
Jessica, did I always prepare gifts for Mrs. Sally before? I had a car accident and Injured my head off don’t remember I didn’t expect to be reminded of it as soon as I arrived.
Only then did Jessica notice Amelia and hurried to respond.
“You used to be very thoughtful. Yes, you always prepare something. How did you get into that accident Was it serious? Come here, let me have a look at you.
A chill flashed in Amelia’s eyes. The reason she brought it up was to get Jessica to scold Mrs. Sally a little – after all, making such a fuss about asking a guest for gifts was really out of line.
But Jessica brushed it off lightly, showing no intention of standing up for her.
Amelia sat down, choosing a spot that was neither too close nor too far.
Jessica looked surprised. In the past, Amelia would always sit very close to her, trying to win her favor. Today, she seemed distant.
Amelia sat up straight. Having seen through Jessica’s attitude, she lost all desire to make conversation.
Sensing the awkwardness, Jessica quickly said to Mrs. Sally, “What are you standing there for? Go pour some
tea.”
Unexpectedly, Mrs. Sally reached out and tugged Amelia along.
“Ms. Summers, come with me. You know best how strong Mr. Nolan likes his tea, and Mrs. Payne always prefers the tea you make.”
Amelia glanced at Nolan, then at Jessica.
Jessica smiled. “You’ve always spoiled Nolan. Yes, you used to make the tea.”
Nolan snorted and turned away coldly.
Now he thought about it, it had been a long time since Amelia had made tea for him. Ever since her accident, they haven’t shared a quiet meal.
Thinking about it made him uneasy. They’d never stayed on bad terms for this long before.
Amelia got up and followed Mrs. Sally to the pantry.
Once they were out of sight, Mrs. Sally’s attitude changed instantly, her chin lifted arrogantly.
“All of Mr. Nolan’s favorite teas are here, and Ms. Milly’s too. Since you’re used to doing these things in the Summers family, just make them all while you’re at it. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to put in a good word for you with Mrs. Payne.”
Amelia lowered her gaze, grabbed a handful of tea leaves–far too many–and tossed them carelessl the cups. Then she filled them with tap water.
She made three cups in the same careless way and carried them out, ignoring Mrs. Sally’s attitude.
Chapter 76 Tes and Troumb
Mrs. Sally only thought she was quick and didn’t notice anything wron
Amelia placed the three cups on the coffee table. Here you go
Nolan was the first to grab a cup, but the temperature felt off why was it cold? The tea leaves hadnt unfurled.
He looked at Amelia in confusion, but she just sat quietly on the sofa, looking perfectly well–behaved
Nolan’s heart softened for a moment. For once, she wasn’t picking a fight, so he drank more than half in one
- go.
It really was cold, and the tea leaves stuck all over his mouth.
He set the cup down and glanced at Amelia again.
Milly and Jessica, seeing that he didn’t say anything, cach picked up a cup as well.
Jessica managed to keep her composure. Even after tasting the cold tea, she calmly set her cup down, her face expressionless. She understood perfectly well that Amelia had done it on purpose.
She was a bit annoyed. In the past, Amelia had always tried to please her, bringing expensive gifts and flattering her with every word. Today, she was acting so cold and distant.
No matter how strained things were with Nolan, she shouldn’t take it out on her elders.
In this respect, Amelia really couldn’t compare to Milly.
Just then, Amelia asked, “Nolan, did you like the tea?”
Nolan was about to answer when Milly suddenly exclaimed, quickly setting down her cup and starting to cough.
“Why is this cold? Amelia, it’s one thing to be willful at home, but Jessica is here today. If you behave like this, who’s going to manage you after you marry, Nolan? Even if you two have misunderstandings, you shouldn’t deliberately upset your elders.”
She set down her cup, took Jessica’s, and poured all the tea into the trash.
“Jessica, Nolan, let me make you a fresh cup. Amelia’s probably in a bad mood today–please don’t take it to heart.”
Jessica’s expression softened considerably, and she waved her hand.
“It’s fine. Everyone has bad days. This just shows how genuine Amelia is.”
A flash of triumph crossed Milly’s eyes. Genuine? What a fool–serving cold tea to the elders. The engagement would surely be called off after this.
Serves her right!
Feeling pleased, she picked up the cups and headed to the pantry, only to stop dead in her tracks at Amelia’s
next words.
“Jessica, I came today because I want to break off my engagement with Nolan. That’s why I came today. I’m not satisfied with him–or with you.”
