Chapter 61 Don’t Look for Me Anymore
While Amelia was wondering whether she had something on her face, Dylan looked away and rolled up the car window.
Amelia stood there. Suddenly, she felt a bit awkward. As she turned around to head home, she spotted Cella waiting for her at the entrance.
Celia looked very upset as she strode toward Amelia.
“Amelia, what’s going on with you this time? Your dad’s about to lose his mind at home, and Milly is in a bad mood. Quickly come home with me and apologize to them.”
This time, Celia’s tone sounded somewhat calm. She didn’t seem as agitated as before. In fact, she even assumed that Amelia would be touched by her calm tone and return home immediately.
However, Amelia merely cast a glance at Celia before looking away calmly.
Celia thought as long as she took the initiative to speak up first, Amelia would be back to being an obedient daughter. Since Celia was being ignored, she lost her temper–instantly.
“Why are you being so stubborn? You’re the reason why the entire family is so unhappy. Can’t you reflect on your behavior right now? You should start wondering why Nolan doesn’t like you.”
“Mrs. Summers, I’ve reflected on my actions. I have a younger sister who deliberately seduces him all the time.
“Men usually can’t resist sluts throwing themselves at them. That’s why I don’t want Nolan anymore.
“But you guys are weird. All of you were so unhappy when I was interested in Nolan. Now that I don’t want him anymore, you guys are still upset with me.”
Celia trembled in anger. “Are you nuts? How could you say that about Milly?”
By then, Amelia had already walked into the apartment complex. She spoke rather coldly. “Don’t come looking for me anymore. As I said, I’ve cut ties with all of you.
“As for my engagement with Nolan, I’ll personally drop by the Hale family and end it myself once I have the time.”
All these years, Celia had gotten used to Amelia coaxing her. Hence, she couldn’t accept such a drastic change in Amelia’s behavior.
Celia took a deep breath. “Don’t regret what you said. You pulled this stunt before so you could get our
attention.”
But Amelia didn’t even stop and returned home right away.
Celia sneered at Amelia. Eventually, the latter would return to the Summers family. Celia was cu.us to know how long Amelia would keep up her act.
The next day, Amelia headed to Hale Corporation to report for work. After being on a business trip for a week, she had lost a lot of weight.
As soon as she walked out of the elevator, she ran into Nolan. Disgust flashed through his eyes, and he pretended he hadn’t seen her.

Instead, he deliberately sped up so he could overtake Amelia. He assumed doing that would hurt her feelings.
But Amelia said nothing. Instead, she discussed her work trip with her colleague. Since she had done a 2001 job, everyone had received an email about her salary raise.
Sophia rolled her eyes after learning that Amelia had gotten a raise just for supporting an agricultural project. During the meeting at noon, Sophia couldn’t help but take a jab at Amelia.
“I hope everyone in the department will work harder. Unlike a certain someone, we don’t have connections. Even if we work ourselves to the bone, we still can’t get a raise.”
Amelia remained in her seat. As soon as she heard Sophia’s jab, she turned to look at Nolan, who was seated at the head of the table.
Nolan was the head of the department, while Sophia was just a manager.
Amelia smiled calmly. “Mr. Hale, Ms. Carter’s talking about you. I didn’t realize that no one can get a raise even after working themselves to the bone.
“That’s quite poor management from you. Based on company policy, I remember that overtime pay should never be withheld. Could someone be embezzling it?”
Sophia meant to mock Amelia, who turned the tables on her and redirected the comment to Nolan.
After all, Nolan did have better connections than Amelia did.
Sophia paled instantly. “Mr. Hale, that’s not what I meant.”
Nolan felt uncomfortable. He knew Amelia was using him as a shield to deflect the insult. Since Sophia’s insult had been rather blunt, he would seem spineless if he didn’t say something to her.
“Sophia, you’re a manager now. Shouldn’t you be more careful with your words?”
Sophia’s expression turned nastier than ever. She glared at Amelia hatefully. But Amelia merely looked down at her documents and said nothing.
Sophia never liked Amelia, who had gotten the job via connections. This time, their relationship had completely soured.
That evening, Amelia was about to get off work when she received notice about a dinner with the department later. Although she wasn’t keen on going, the notice in the group chat had made it very clear that attendance was mandatory.
To begin with, Amelia wasn’t even welcomed. She didn’t want to stand out at that moment, so she had no choice but to take a taxi to the venue. By the time she arrived at the hotel’s private room, everyone was already seated.

Sophia began making a few sarcastic remarks again. “Someone’s acting as if she’s more super head of the department. She showed up even later than he did. Anyone who didn’t know any better would’ve thought you’re the boss
But Amelia ignored Sophia’s remark. She decided to stay a while before leaving.
Since Amelia was unable to fit in with the department, she had no intention of forcing herself to do so. As long as she was paid, that was enough.

The restaurant the department had chosen for the dinner was not bad. It was a five–star hotel, and the private room was soundproof. It even had a karaoke setup.
This time, Nolan had joined them for the dinner. In the past, he never did participate in such gatherings.
Although Amelia no longer cared for Nolan, his identity as a Hale was still rather impressive. If he took a liking to someone, that would be a ticket straight into the high society of Solandis.
Who wouldn’t want to try getting with Nolan?
