Chapter 49 Narcissistic Tendencies

Dylan maneuvered his wheelchair. His face was expressionless

Milly stood behind the wheelchair. Mr. Hale, let me take you back to your room

No sooner had she spoken, she heard him say, Get lost.”

Milly froze, thinking that she’d misheard

It wasn’t until the sound of the wheelchair had long faded that she felt angry

Find her

She clenched her fists, her chest heaving with fury. She was humiliated! How dare Dylan treat her this way

Running into her on a night like this, with two of them standing before the same painting. Shouldn’t he think that it was fate

Damn it! Dylan was not falling for it

Fuming, Milly returned to her room. As she opened the door, a man pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately

It was Nolan

Milly felt her frustration melt away when she thought that Nolan was so passionate with her but he looked down on Amelia

Nolan, why aren’t you asleep?”

What were you doing outside so late?”

The moon looked beautiful tonight.”

After a while, Nolan carried her back to the bed

Ever since they’d drunkenly ended up together a year ago, they hadn’t bothered to avoid the subject. They went at it again

Milly said worriedly, I took a walk over to the west wing. It’s pretty far from here. Nolan, you should comfort Amelia in the morning. She came to Sienna Valley in a fit, probably because she heard I was coming to help with the Agricultural Aid project.”

Nolan was impatient, but remembering what Dylan had said that evening, he felt a twinge of discomfort. He and Amelia had gotten along well in the past. Back then, they both liked and wanted each other. Amelia saved his life, pulling him from the brink of drowning. He owed it all to her

But Milly’s hardships had moved him. She’d suffered so much before returning five years ago, and she was so considerate

Amelia had enjoyed years of luxury with the Summers family. Besides, it was Milly who’a uelped her escape back then. Otherwise, who knows what might have happened? Amelia was never grateful

Milly gently traced circles on his chest. Nolan, I don’t want things to get ugly between me and Amelia. I know she’s wary of me because she thinks I stole everything from her, and I understand her. She genuinely

loves you. Sometimes I feel like I’m the bad guy.”

Nolan pulled her into an embrace. I’ll go see her tomorrow. Don’t talk about yourself like that. Beside, it was my fault for drinking too much and getting involved with you. I should take responsibility. It’s not your fault.”

Milly grinned. She’d once envied Amelia for having such a good fiancé. When she first returned to the Summers family, everything felt unfamiliar. Nolan had treated her coldly, his eyes only for Amelia

Milly didn’t like that, so she deliberately did things to win Nolan’s sympathy, and gradually, he only had eyes for Milly

But that wasn’t enough. She wanted Nolan to despise Amelia utterly, and she’d succeeded. Not just Nolan, but everyone disliked Amelia now

When Milly returned to the Summers family, she’d sworn to take away everything Amelia cared about

Milly relished the feeling of being cherished. The more misfortune befell Amelia, the happier she felt. She was determined to reclaim everything she’d lost over the years

The next morning, Nolan dragged his feet as he made his way to Amelia’s quarters. He stood at her door and knocked, but after ten minutes, no one answered

His patience wore thin until the door behind him opened. Nolan turned, surprised, as if rooted to the spot. Dylan, you live across the hall?”

With so many rooms here, why did Dylan and Amelia have to be neighbors

That uncomfortable feeling crept up again

Yes. What do you want?”

I came to check on Amelia. She’s in trouble again. With so many orders, they can’t be shipped. I wanted to comfort her.”

Dylan glanced at the red marks on Nolan’s neck. It was so obvious. Was he here to comfort Amelia, or to provoke her

Nolan seemed unaware of the marks. He pulled out his phone to call Amelia, only to remember he’d been blocked

Dylan, could you call Amelia for me?”

Dylan sat in his wheelchair, a cold glint in his eyes. Before you go looking for her, at least wipe away the evidence of your little fun.”

It took Nolan a moment to process this. Then he covered his neck, recalling how long Milly had kissed him there the night before

Nolan looked embarrassed, but quickly shrugged it off

Amelia knows anyway. There’s no chance for us.”

Then why are you here?”

The question Nolan made Nolan pause. If he’d decided to break off the engagement, why bother coming at
