Chapter 47 A Sad History
“We’ll give her three days. Since she streams, it’ll benefit us.
The others still looked uneasy, but they ultimately agreed.
Nemi rushed over to Amelia to check on her injuries, but Amelia shook her head. “I’m fine.”
How could she be okay? Her whole back was probably bruised.
But Amelia had already opened the flaps of a few young people’s tents and walked in, telling Nemi what to do.
“Send a message to the customers wh
placed an order through the platform. Inform them that I conducted a survey and discovered that apples from Greenvale are sweeter. We’ll be sending Greenvale apples instead. We’ll ship if they agree. If not, we’ll refund their money.”
Nemi was puzzled. “Why send that me
We have over 4000 dollars in orders right now. If we just ship. them out, no one could tell if they’re from Sienna Valley or Greenvale. We could sell over 20,000 kg in one go, and Greenvale apples taste great anyway.”
Amelia looked at the young people, who were still angry, and quickly stopped Nemi.
“It’s rude to pass off their apples as Sienna Valley apples. Back then, Sienna Valley pushed them out of their agreement like thieves. They said they would rather let their apples rot in the orchards than ride on Sienna Valley’s reputation now.”
People from Greenvale are set in their ways, just like everyone else.
The older generation never bowed their heads, and neither would they. It’s deep–rooted pride.
Some people might think it’s dumb to have your own set of principles, but these are the people who wouldn’t betray you after you helped them, unlike people from Sienna Valley.
The young people nearby were happy to hear Amelia’s words.
“Exactly! My mom always told us not to ride on Sienna Valley’s back. You have no idea how gross they were years ago. A lot of people died here back then, even our respected village chief…” At this point, the young man choked up.
“The village chief was gone. At the time, my mom was still a teen. She said he was a top graduate from a well–known university, and he volunteered to come here so we could all have better lives. He came up with the idea to grow apples together.
“Willow District wasn’t split into Sienna Valley and Greenvale back then, but later on, the leaders of Sienna Valley took all the credit for the apple project and kept getting promoted. People were angry and wanted to fight for the village chief, but he told them to let it go as long as everyone could live well.
“But then Sienna Valley threw our apples out. The village chief went to a meeting to fight for our rights, but he was killed with a rake. The leaders of Sienna Valley only paid 60 dollars in damages.”
60 dollars for the life of a village chief. Amelia understood why the people of Greenvale hated Sienna Valley with their souls.
How could the older generation ever let go of such hatred?

The young man wiped his eyes. “The village chief was only in his 20s and had just graduated from college He could have had a great life in the city. His fiancée heard about his death and drove to Sienna Valley to bring him home, but someone threw a rock at her car, so the windshield shattered, she crashed, and died
too.”
Amelia’s fingers tightened around the apple, her breathing heavy.
Nemi was too angry to hold back. “How could they do that?” Did the people who threw the rocks get the death penalty?
The young man closed his eyes and pressed his lips together. “They were only 12 years old.”
When he spoke, everyone in the room stopped talking. At 12, they wouldn’t be held accountable and be sent to juvenile hall.
Nemi shook with anger as she remembered her earlier idea to pass off Greenvale apples as those from Sienna Valley.
She felt bad and ashamed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
Amelia patted her on the shoulder. “Send a letter of apology. Be honest. Well, the apples I just ate are sweeter and crisper than the ones from Sienna Valley.”
Nemi quickly wiped her eyes and pulled herself together. “Okay!”
Amelia turned to the young people. “How much do you sell them per kg?”
“It’s always been 60 cents.”
“Nemi, make it clear in the apology letter. As compensation, we’ll add an extra kg for free.”
The original deal was 9.90 for 10kg. Even with an extra kg, it was still more than 60 cents per kg.
“Got it.”
Once the apology letter was sent, everyone anxiously watched the platform. Soon, messages about canceling orders started pouring in.
Nemi held her head in her hands. “It’s done. Will all 4000 dollars worth of orders be canceled? Milly is to blame for saying we lied to customers. People will think we’re guilty now that we’ve sent this letter.”
Amelia patted Nemi’s shoulder, told her to keep an eye on the platform, then stood up and looked at the young people.
