Chapter 40 Messing Up Plans
Nemi was so mad when she heard this that she almost jumped at the coordinator. “What do you mean? We made a deal for the Agricultural Aid Project! Amelia was out there live streaming in the pouring rain! She offered a higher price than in previous years, because she was worried that the fruit farmers would incur losses.
“You and Milly were trying to make Amelia seem like the bad guy, even though she was trying to look out for you! All the orders have been processed, but you won’t pack or ship them. Do you want everyone to spite her? You could have told us about this last night or even this morning, but you waited until noon, after she had already sold 2000 dollars worth of orders!”
They were trying to make a fool out of her. She had worked to the bone trying to sell those apples. But she would be the one to blame if she fails to deliver.
Nemi was so upset that she was on the verge of tears,
i wronged on Amelia’s behalf.
Amelia sat in a chair in the tent with her legs outstretched. It was swollen and couldn’t bend anymore. She had to go back to the guest house to take care of it.
She absently touched her wound, listening to the coordinator. There was still a small stone stuck in her knee, and its sharp edge was rubbing against her skin in a painful way. Amelia worked up a fever since she was outside in the rain all night, so she looked pale.
The coordinator didn’t dare meet her eyes. Amelia understood perfectly well that this person was in cahoots with the fruit farmers.
She had more than 4000 dollars in orders now. If all of them were canceled, it would hurt not only her but also the streaming company, which is part of Hale Corporation. That meant that in the end, the trouble would befall her.
Milly was ruthless. No wonder she hadn’t seemed anxious in the live stream earlier, even though things looked bad. She’d already prepared her escape plan.
Milly was using money to compete with Amelia, and
cre was no way Amelia could win.
Amelia took a deep breath and looked at the coordinator. “Is this everyone’s decision?”
The coordinator nodded and apologized again. “Ms. Summers, I’m sorry, but everyone is in a rough patch, and money is the most important thing to them. Ms. Milly was also very kind and generous. Last night, everyone agreed to work only with her. Not informing you was Ms. Milly’s idea; it had nothing to do with
us.”

The coordinator sounded rude as he had gotten a lot bolder with Milly’s support.
Nemi was furious. They were all polite and humble when they needed Amelia. They just pushed her aside now that they didn’t. Did these people even know that Hale Corporation was on her side?
“You people-!” Nemi was about to curse them out, but Amelia grabbed her wrist.
Nemi’s neck was flushed red. “Amelia, how are you so calm? We have to ship 4000 dollars worth of orders. With nothing to ship, isn’t that deceiving the customers? Do you know how badly you’ll be criticized?”
Amelia would become popular for all the wrong reasons, and her reputation would be ruined. People in Solandis already thought poorly of her, so if everyone in Willow District thought badly of her, she’d be unwelcome everywhere.

Amelia shook her head. Arguing with the coordinator would be useless; they had to think of a solution fast. “Nemi, let’s go back to the guesthouse first.”
Nemi was on the verge of tears, but she forced herself to hold it together. “Okay, let’s get your knee treated first.”
Amelia got up and walked with a limp to the car outside.
But the coordinator just had to add something at that moment.
“Ms. Summers, I know this may sound harsh, but Ms. Milly does seem to be much better at her job than you. I even saw your brother sending her gifts during her live stream, but he never showed up in yours. I heard you two are siblings, but you don’t seem very close. You must have done a lot of bad things at home, right?”
Amelia stopped in her tracks and turned to look at the coordinator, who was full of admiration for Milly.
Milly’s innocent–looking face was naturally deceptive, and when she spoke with that pitiful tone, it was hard not to be moved. Here was another man falling for her charms.
Amelia sneered inside. Milly really didn’t discriminate, always showing off her allure.
Amelia endured the pain in her knee and spoke up. “Putting aside my issues with Milly, I want to know how you’re managing the risks here. Apples from Sienna Valley are a local specialty, selling for six dollars a kilogram in city supermarkets. Merchants would never use an online sales associate to purchase these apples; they would always visit the orchards in person.
“You’re selling it online this time, but you’re not checking addresses. What if people get bad apples? Won’t it hurt the sales of your apples in the future? This is my first project with Hale Corporation, so I want it to succeed. Let me give you some advice: don’t just think about the short–term benefits.”
The coordinator laughed coldly. It’s not your place to be concerned. Ms. Milly has a plan for keeping the apples fresh.”
