Chapter 103
I handed Thomas’s phone back to him, my expression revealing nothing. Those gossip column photos couldn’t hurt me anymore; my heart had completely given up hope for Henry.
“I don’t like looking at this stuff,” I said quietly. “You don’t need to deliberately tell me how much Henry loves Isabella. I
really don’t care anymore.”
Thomas stared at me, clearly surprised by my calm reaction. He had obviously expected me to cry, perhaps even break down, so he could naturally comfort me.
“You don’t care?” he aske her, you…”
his voice tinged with disbelief. “Sophia, these photos were taken last night. While he was with
“Thomas,” I interrupted, my voice firm yet gentle. “Between Henry and me, there was never any real love. It was all just me desperately trying to maintain a relationship that should never have existed. I’ve decided not to fight for it anymore.”
I took another bite of the strawberry shortcake, savoring its sweetness while speaking the bitter truth.
I had spent years convincing myself that if I just tried a little harder, was a little more patient, a little more understanding, Henry would eventually love me.
What a waste of time that had been.
Thomas’s expression grew incredibly tender as he gazed at me intensely. “Sophia,” he began hesitantly, setting down his phone and leaning closer. “Perhaps this is finally an opportunity for you to find true happiness.”
His gaze clearly conveyed his affection and desire for me, but I couldn’t reciprocate his feelings.
Thomas had always been behind me, silently supporting and caring for me, never pushing but also never hiding his
feelings.
“I need time to focus on Billy and myself,” I said gently.
A bitter smile crossed Thomas’s face. “You know, six years ago, my mother visited you privately.”
This unexpected change of subject caught me off guard. “Yes, I remember.”
“She said some terrible things to you, didn’t she?” His eyes searched mine. “I’ve always felt that’s why you rushed into marriage with Henry. After my mother humiliated you, you felt you needed to marry quickly.”
I shook my head. “Thomas, your mother didn’t force or threaten me. All the decisions I’made were my own.”
“I don’t believe it,” he insisted, his voice rising slightly. “I’ve experienced my mother’s demeaning ways that make people want to escape quickly. If she said something that made you uncomfortable, I apologize.”
“It doesn’t matter now,” I said firmly. “What’s past is past.”
“I can make her apologize, Thomas continued eagerly, as if he hadn’t heard me. I’ll convince her. Just give me one chance, Sophia. One chance to show you what real love feels like.”
His intense emotion made me uncomfortable. I stood up, gathering my study materials. I should get back to work. Thank

you for the cake, It was thoughtful.”
Thomas quickly rose, blocking my path to the door, his express on gradually becoming fanatical.
Please, Thomas. I’m asking you not to bring personal feelings to our professional relationship. I don’t have those kinds of feelings for you,” I emphasized again.
“Why?” he demanded, his voice suddenly harsh. “Why would you rather stay with Henry than choose me? I’ve been nothing but devoted to you!”
His outburst startled me. This wasn’t the calm, professional Thomas I knew from our daily interactions.
“Is it because of Billy?” he continued questioning, his words now tumbling out rapidly like machine–gun fire. “I don’t mind at all! I would treat him like my own son. I swear it!”
I stared at him, perhaps truly seeing him for the first time. Had he always been this desperate beneath his composed. exterior?
“When I heard you’d asked Henry for a divorce,” he continued, was so happy I couldn’t sleep all night. I thought my chance had finally come.”
A chill ran down my spine. There was something unsettling about the way he looked at me, a possessiveness I’d never noticed before.
“But you’ve been trying to divorce him for so long without success,” he added, his expression darkening. “It makes me worried.”
“Thomas, please,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “This isn’t appropriate.”
Without warning, he lunged forward, wrapping his arms tightly around me. His heart pounded rapidly against my chest, his breathing becoming heavy with emotion.
“Just give me one chance,” he pleaded, his voice breaking from emotional intensity. “One opportunity to show you how much better I could be for you than Henry. I’d never hurt you like he has. I’d never make you cry.”
I stood frozen in his embrace, my mind racing. The Thomas I thought I knew–that kind, professional doctor–seemed to have vanished, replaced by this desperate man who had apparently been harboring intense feelings for years.
And these feelings, at this moment, were like a volcano that could no longer be contained, erupting uncontrollably.
“Please, Sophia,” he whispered beside my hair. “Just one chance. That’s all I’m asking for.”
His arms tightened around me, and for a moment, I felt trapped–not just physically in his embrace, but by the sudden realization that my perception of our friendship had been completely wrong all along.
I was frightened by Thomas’s nearly manic behavior and desperately struggled to avoid any physical contact with him.
“Thomas, stop it, let me go, we need to get back to work!” I protested.
No matter how much I struggled, Thomas refused to release me
Thomas held me tighter and tighter until my skin turned red, still refusing to let go.

*Sophia, just let me hold you. For six years, I’ve thought of this moment every second of every day!” he said.
As he spoke, his tone was full of pleading, heavy with profound disappointment: “Sophia, don’t be so cold to me, please?”
Iremained unmoved.
While continuing to struggle, I scolded him harshly: “Thomas, lease, let me go, will you? If you don’t let go, I’ll call for help!”
Six years ago, I had no romantic feelings for Thomas whatsoever.
Six years later, nothing had changed.
Even if Henry didn’t love me, I couldn’t bring myself to love someone else.
Thomas held me even tighter, continuously trying to drag me toward the small room behind the changing area.
That small room was filled with dirty patient gowns. The cleaning staff only came once every two days, and today wasn’t a cleaning day, so no one would be there.
I had no idea what crazy things Thomas might do and struggled desperately to avoid being dragged into that room.
My intense resistance agitated the eager Thomas, causing him to use even more force.
“Sophia, don’t treat me like this. I just like you–is that so wrong?”
“I just want to hold you, nothing more. Don’t move, don’t resist. I won’t hurt you.”
Despite his repeated assurances that he wouldn’t hurt me, I still felt terrified, my heart racing uncontrollably.
“Thomas, you’re forcing yourself on me, and I really don’t like it. Please let me go!”
“If you continue like this, I’m going to call for help!”
